Dew Claw and Tail Docking Sample Submission Protocol

Dew Claw and Tail Docking Samples

  • Discuss with your veterinarian before samples are collected. The veterinarian will need to individually package and label the samples that will be shipped to the laboratory. Explain that the samples are for genetic testing and cross contamination of blood between samples may potentially impact the results.
  • Send the tail docking or dew claw pair in a clean leak-proof tube or plastic bag.
  • Label the container with the puppy’s call name or collar color and the owner’s last name.
