Blood Sample Submission Protocol

Blood Sample Collection

  • Draw 2 to 3 mL of whole blood into an EDTA tube (lavender-topped tube in the USA).
    • For small dogs or young puppies 1 to 2 mL is okay.
  • Gently invert tubes to distribute the anticoagulant.
    • Do not spin, extract plasma, or do anything further.
  • Label the sample with the dog’s call name and the owner’s last name.
  • Refrigerate (do not freeze) if the sample is being held for a day or more before shipping.
