At the beginning of the year, Paige Allen, MS, RVT, assistant director of academic advising and recruiting for the Purdue Veterinary Nursing Program, knew she was embarking on an exciting challenge. Effective January 21, she stepped into the role of president of the Board of Directors for the North American Veterinary Community (NAVC), one of the world’s largest nonprofits providing continuing education for veterinary professionals.

Dr. Marxa Figueiredo, associate professor of basic medical sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine, played a leadership role on a team of Purdue University scientists who have created a new therapy option that may help halt tumor growth in certain cancers such as prostate, which is among the most common types of cancer in men.

Dr. Lewis and his wife were generous – generous in spirit and generous in giving. They especially valued people, and that focus was reflected in a variety of ways, including how they evaluated what organizations to support financially. It was not surprising when they came up with the idea last year of making a gift to honor a beloved colleague and longtime Purdue Veterinary Medicine faculty member.

After students braved the “new normal” brought on during the spring semester by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine sought to ensure their memorable achievements were recognized. So a beloved tradition known as the White Coat Ceremony became all the more important this year to mark the third-year students’ transition into their clinical experiences. With no way to safely conduct in-person events, teams set about planning a White Coat Ceremony in the realm of virtual reality.
