In May 2018, the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine achieved a unique milestone when a member of the Class of 2018 became the first former Boiler Vet Camp (BVC) participant to earn her DVM degree!

Nearly 120 faculty, staff, and students from eleven universities across the country attended the Iverson Bell Midwest Regional Diversity Summit at Purdue University in May. The biennial event is a collaboration among the colleges and schools of veterinary medicine at Purdue, Michigan State University, the University of Minnesota, The Ohio State University, and the University of Wisconsin, with additional sponsorship by Zoetis. The three day program was packed with presentations, workshops, discussions and an awards ceremony.

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine’s This is How We “Role” program has received the 2018 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the largest and oldest diversity and inclusion publication in higher education. The Inspiring Programs in STEM Award honors colleges and universities that encourage and assist students from underrepresented groups to enter the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

African Swine Fever (ASF) is a disease of swine with many outbreaks recorded across Eastern Europe over the last decade. Though it is not yet in the United States, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foreign Agriculture Service (FAS) has awarded a generous grant to a team of Purdue Veterinary Medicine faculty members.

Learning and networking opportunities for the entire veterinary team make the 2018 Purdue Veterinary Conference the place to be in September! Registration is still available for the 2018 conference, which takes place September 18-22 on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus. Attendees can earn up to 26 continuing education (CE) credits during the conference.

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine is introducing a new way for pet owners to recognize the compassionate care of any and all veterinary team members who look after the well-being of their animal companions. “Compassion Fur Paws” is the name of a new interactive program that allows clients to honor specific individuals within any veterinary practice, from primary care clinics to specialty hospitals, through easy-to-make online donations to the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Purdue Veterinary Medicine hosted two delegations of veterinary and veterinary technology students from China and Japan for a two-week exchange visit that concluded with a farewell luncheon and ceremony last Friday, August 3. As part of a reciprocal exchange agreement made through the PVM Office of Global Engagement, a total of 11 students and two faculty members observed various clinical rotations and participated in a variety of events and activities.

As busy as it is beautiful, the Bengal cat is an energetic domestic breed that tends to have a lot in common with its cousins in the wild – high jumping, climbing and even a love for water. So it’s not hard to imagine the pain and disappointment involved when Fridgey, a two-year-old Bengal cat, started to have problems with his hips. That’s when Purdue Veterinary Medicine’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) got involved.
