PVM Research on Service Dogs and Veterans with PTSD Garners Widespread Media Coverage

A team of researchers led by Purdue Veterinary Medicine Assistant Professor of Human-Animal Interaction Maggie O’Haire has produced valuable scientific data documenting the nature of the effect of service dogs on veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Published in the February issue of the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, the study found that service dogs are associated with lower PTSD Symptoms among war veterans. The groundbreaking nature of the study has attracted significant media attention.
Surgical Equipment Donation Enhances Learning for Purdue Veterinary Students

Thanks to a connection between Purdue Veterinary Medicine’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) and an orthopedic surgeon at Logansport Memorial Hospital in Logansport, Ind., third-year Purdue veterinary students now have more opportunities to learn first-hand about using electrosurgical equipment in surgery. The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine recently took possession of several electrosurgical units that were donated by the Logansport Memorial Hospital.

New PVM Curriculum Developed to Ensure Career-ready Graduates

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine is launching a new curriculum for the first three years of the DVM Program with the goal of graduating veterinary students who are practice-ready and have the foundation to pursue any veterinary career path. Approved by the faculty this spring, the new curriculum begins in the fall with the incoming class of 2022.

PVM Junior Veterinarians Honored at Ceremony

Members of the Purdue Veterinary Medicine Class of 2019 reached a major milestone Sunday afternoon (April 15) as they took part in the College’s White Coat Ceremony held in Stewart Center’s Fowler Hall. Sponsored by Elanco Animal Health and Hill’s Pet Nutrition, the event, now in its 17th year, recognizes students entering their final year of the DVM program with a ceremonial donning of white coats symbolizing their new role as junior veterinarians.
PVM Students Explore Ancient Artifacts Related to the Human-Animal Bond

“Early Origins of Veterinary Medicine” is the title of a new Purdue Veterinary Medicine course, VM 86000, and students in the class had an exceptional opportunity earlier this month to come face to face with ancient artifacts they had studied in the course. The instructor, Professor of Medical Illustration David Williams, took several third-year students enrolled in the class on a field trip to the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago.
