Dr. Brianna Beechler

Assistant Professor, Sr. Research, and Relief Attending Veterinarian, Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine, Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR | DVM 2008, Oregon State University | PhD 2013, Oregon State University

My Story

Veterinary medicine was a career I had always considered, but didn’t decide to pursue until after I finished an undergraduate degree in teaching. I wanted a career that allowed me to use a One Health approach, helping improve the health of the environment, animals and people. Veterinary Medicine was that career.

My Struggles

Everyone has struggles, focusing on them prevents us from moving forward so I prefer not to write about them.

My Heroes

My role models growing up were everyday people around me, like my parents and teachers. They helped me be successful by encouraging me to live my life with empathy and dedication.

My Typical Day

I currently have numerous jobs – both as a practicing small animal veterinarian, a wildlife researcher and a teacher. Therefore, my typical day is quite varied and could involve anything from capturing bighorn sheep, to vaccinating a dog to mentoring a student through a difficult time. I enjoy this variety and it keeps me on my toes.

My Stressors

I manage my stress by being sure to dedicate some time for myself every day, usually running with my dogs in the mountains!

My Why

I enjoy helping people help their animals.
