Power Up Our Community!
PVM Cares!
We are excited to offer a new opportunity for our college to engage with our community! Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine has joined superpowers with Thomas Miller Elementary School for mutual transformation! Together, we support students in their quest for scientific knowledge and STEM career exploration.
Purdue Veterinary Medicine’s League of VetaHumanz has enjoyed a reciprocal partnership with Miller Elementary School since 2022. Dr. Sandy San Miguel, AKA Pink Phoenix, is the VetaHuman-in residence, collaborating closely with Miller’s administration, teachers, and staff, to deliver weekly science lessons to students in grades 2-4. After school, the PVM League of VetaHumanz role model team, led by veterinary medical students, VetaHumanz-In-Training, delivers veterinary science lessons to Miller students at Bauer Community Center.
Power Up Our Community!
We invite all PVM students, staff, faculty, and alumni, as well as friends and allies of the college, to join in our mission. Throughout the year we will work together to equip Miller students and classrooms with everything from school supplies, homework supplies, and educational materials to seasonal needs such as footwear, clothing, and outerwear. We anticipate that participation will boost the wellbeing of both our college and our community!
Get Started Now!
Realizing that there are many impactful ways to contribute to our community, we offer multiple ways to help meet the needs of the children we are supporting.
Supplier: If you want to participate, but are strapped for time, this is the role for you! Each mission will have an associated Amazon Wish List- With a few quick clicks, you can make a difference!
Assembler: If you enjoy the camaraderie of a team effort, this a wonderful way to contribute! Once the supplies are gathered, we will team up to assemble packages for students and classrooms.
Field Agent: PVM faculty, staff, students, and alumni are invited to apply to join the League of VetaHumanz PVM Role Model Team and participate in after school programming! Field agents will be required to complete online role model certification training, Purdue’s Youth Protection Training, and meet any requirements of community partners.
Our First Mission! Back to School!
Step 1: We need Suppliers to join our mission to help Miller students and teachers get the supplies they need to be successful in the classroom and with homework assignments.
Step 2: Once the supplies are gathered, we will call in the Assemblers to pack backpacks and classroom kits. Our vision is for every Miller student to receive a backpack full of homework supplies and every Miller classroom to have the supplies needed.
We have worked with the Miller Team to assemble the wish lists below:
