New Faculty Member Joins Comparative Pathobiology Department and Reed ADDL

The College of Veterinary Medicine’s Department of Comparative Pathobiology recently welcomed Dr. Rachel Soltys as clinical assistant professor of diagnostic microbiology. Dr. Soltys, who started January 20, also serves as section head of Bacteriology in the Willie M. Reed Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL).

More than 300 Indiana pork producers gathered this week in Noblesville, Indiana for the 2024 Midwest Pork Conference, where they had the opportunity to interact with representatives of the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. The Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory and Purdue University Farm Animal Hospital were highlighted at the conference’s trade show, which featured more than 50 vendors and served as a center of activity for pork producers, veterinarians, legislators, and industry leaders.

Strategically Speaking: Refreshed Strategic Plan to Guide College Through 2023

As Boilermakers, Purdue Veterinary Medicine’s team of faculty, staff and students realizes that persistent planning is key to taking the small steps that enable the College of Veterinary Medicine to persistently pursue the next giant leap. That is why the college has a culture of strategic planning. Since 2010, two five-year strategic plans have been developed and implemented. When the most recent of those plans neared its end in 2020, teams of faculty and staff reviewed the document, taking note of the college’s achievements, and developed a “refreshed” strategic plan with revised and updated action items for the time period of 2021-2023.

Dr. Lewis J. Runnels, professor emeritus of comparative pathobiology, who served many years on the College of Veterinary Medicine faculty and was highly respected and influential as a swine specialist, passed away November 8 at Westminster Village Health Care in West Lafayette, Ind. He was 95.
