Through research, many types of canine cancer have transitioned from being a diagnosis with no hope to a highly treatable condition in which the pet can continue to enjoy life for an extended period of time. Our researchers are building on previous successes to truly achieve cures from cancer. Through a better understanding of what causes cancer, to new drugs and treatment innovations, Purdue oncology researchers are pushing the envelope of cancer care.
By donating tissue samples from your dog at the time of death or euthanasia through the Werling Comparative Oncology Research Center, you can help us better understand and defeat cancer for both dogs and humans.
Your dog's donation will help advance the prevention and treatment of cancer.
After your pet passes, our team will collect samples from the cancer and internal organs for current and future research. We analyze tissues harboring cancer and not harboring cancer to learn what causes cancer, how to prevent it, and how to treat it more effectively.
When you come to Purdue for your visit, no additional information is needed. You will focus entirely on sharing your pet's last special moments with them. In recognition of your generosity, our service will cover the cost of your dog's euthanasia and cremation. Your pet's ashes can be returned to you or buried in a pet cemetery.
If you have any further questions, please ask to speak to one of our doctors from the Werling Comparative Oncology Research Center. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Inform our team of your interest in participating in the Oncology Legacy Program and a member of our team will contact you to pre-sign authorization forms for necropsy and research participation.
When you are nearing time to say goodbye to your pet family member, call our team to schedule your "Legacy Euthanasia" visit. Appointments are available Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
