Registering for classes

How do I register for classes?

This is a multi-step process. You must have a PIN to register for classes in myPurdue. In order to receive your PIN, you must submit a preparatory form. These forms are accessible by clicking here. Once your form is processed, you will be contacted via your Purdue email address with your PIN. You will then access myPurdue to register for your classes. Completion of the preparatory forms does NOT register you for classes.

Why can't I register for the class I want?

Many classes in the program build upon knowledge learned in previous program classes. These previous classes are called pre-requisites. If you have not completed the correct pre-requisite class, you will not be allowed to register. For example, you may not take VCS 20100 (Pharmacy Procedures) until you have completed VM 10500 (Introduction to Veterinary Technology).

Why can't I register for the mentorship I want?

During the preparatory form process, if you wish to register for a mentorship, there are additional forms that must be completed. Once these forms are completed and received by the veterinary technology office, an override is completed that will allow you to register. These forms are available within the mentorship links located by clicking here. If you have further questions about mentorships, please contact the veterinary technology office (vettech@purdue.edu).

How do I access my course material?

Purdue University uses Blackboard for delivering online courses. Once the term has started, you can access all of your courses by going to Purdue’s Blackboard and entering your Login and Password (this should be the same Login and Password that you use to access your Purdue email account). Once you have logged in, all of the courses will be listed in “My Blackboard.”

Why isn't my class listed in Blackboard?

There are several things that could cause your class(s) to not show up when you login to Blackboard.  You may not have registered for the class (remember, completing a preparatory form does NOT register you for classes). If you did not pay your bill, you may be dropped from your classes. Also, some instructors do not open their classes until the first day of the semester.

What do I do if I need accommodations for exams or other course work?

Contact the Disability Resource Center (DRC) at Student Success at Purdue. Once the accommodations have been determined, the DRC will provide you with a letter for you to present to your instructors. Who do I call if I am having technical difficulty with an exam?

You should always contact your instructor as soon as you experience any technical difficulty. If during business hours, you should call the instructor. If you cannot reach your instructor via phone, send an email. Sending an email will document the time you were having trouble. You may also contact the veterinary technology office to see if they can help you reach your instructor. If you cannot reach your instructor, you may copy/paste exam questions/answers into a word or text document and have your proctor email it to your instructor.

Are there opportunities to come to Purdue's campus to complete the hands-on skills?

The program offers clinical workshops in May/June each year. The workshops allow for a limited number of students to come to campus for the opportunity to complete hands-on skills related to large animal and laboratory animal.

There is no requirement that you come to campus to attend these workshops. However, many students who only work with small animals have taken advantage of the workshops in order to complete their large animal and laboratory animal tasks.

Due to limited space, supplies, and faculty/staff, the program does not offer any other opportunities to come to campus to complete hands-on skills.
