Research in neuroscience focuses on spinal cord injury and degenerative neurologic diseases.
Spinal cord injury most commonly occurs in young adult human beings as a result of traffic accidents, and is common in certain breeds of dogs that are prone to herniation of the intervertebral disks. Spinal cord injury research is carried out in the Center for Paralysis Research and is aimed at the discovery of novel methods to treat injured nerves.
Faculty also study the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis in a mouse model of this degenerative disease.
