PVM Faculty Member Sarah Waxman, leader of Purdue’s Equestrian Team, honored as Outstanding Advisor of the Year

People in the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine know Dr. Sarah Waxman as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, boarded large animal surgeon and clinician with the Veterinary Hospital’s Equine Field Service. They may not realize she also has played a key role in the success of the Purdue Equestrian Team, for which she serves as advisor.

Organized by PVM students, the day-long event is held each year as part of Purdue University’s Spring Fest celebration.


PVM Puts Best Paw Forward at 2025 Open House Tomorrow

Lynn Hall will undergo a metamorphosis by nightfall tonight (Friday, April 11) as the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine prepares for the annual Open House tomorrow, Saturday, April 12. Planned by PVM students, the annual event will attract people of all ages who want to see animals and learn about animal health and the profession of Veterinary Medicine.


Popular Veterinary Nursing Symposium Features Day of Learning and Networking

Purdue Veterinary Medicine’s annual Veterinary Nursing Symposium brought more than 150 veterinary professionals to Lynn Hall recently to gain practical knowledge and insights about a diverse range of topics covering both small and large animals. Veterinary nurses (technicians and technologists), veterinary assistants and veterinary nursing (technology) students participated in the all day lifelong learning program Sunday, March 23. The attendees came from across Indiana as well as Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.


Purdue Alumnus and Longtime Industry Veterinarian Joins College of Veterinary Medicine

A Purdue Veterinary Medicine graduate with extensive work experience in the animal health industry is returning to his alma mater to focus on strategic industry partnerships. Dr. Tony Rumschlag (PU DVM ’85) accepted the position of executive director of corporate relations for the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, effective March 31.


PVM Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Announces Plans to Retire

An esteemed and dedicated Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine faculty member and administrator, Dr. S. Kathleen Salisbury, has announced that she will conclude her Purdue career of more than 40 years when she retires effective June 30, 2025. Her decision was shared with the college’s faculty, staff and students by Dean Bret Marsh, DVM, Wednesday (3/12).

Experienced agricultural leader joins Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine to strengthen constituent relationships

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine has appointed Julia Wickard, a longtime agricultural leader in Indiana, as the college’s new constituent liaison and executive director of the Purdue Veterinary Alumni Association, effective February 24. Wickard, of Greenfield, Indiana, most recently served as the state executive director of the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA). Her new position at Purdue represents a homecoming for the Purdue alumna, who earned her BA degree in agricultural communications and political science at Purdue.

The day-long continuing education event hosted by the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine on Saturday, February 8, highlighted the value of the equine health education provided by the college to equine enthusiasts.
