PVM Puts Best Paw Forward at 2025 Open House Tomorrow

Lynn Hall will undergo a metamorphosis by nightfall tonight (Friday, April 11) as the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine prepares for the annual Open House tomorrow, Saturday, April 12. Planned by PVM students, the annual event will attract people of all ages who want to see animals and learn about animal health and the profession of Veterinary Medicine.

The Open House begins at 10:00 a.m. and runs through 3:00 p.m. in and around Lynn Hall. Held as part of Purdue University’s Spring Fest, the free, family-friendly event offers a unique opportunity for the public to learn about the diverse field of veterinary medicine through interactive exhibits, educational demonstrations, and Purdue University Veterinary Hospital tours.

Some of the many planned attractions will include the “Creepy Crawlies” exhibit, which educates visitors on potential pet health threats, and a petting zoo featuring baby chicks, sheep, horses, and more. Another popular exhibit gives children the chance to dress like a surgeon and perform Teddy Bear suturing as a means of learning the ins and outs of surgery from third-year veterinary students.

Visitors can also learn about the college’s Canine Educators program and view award-winning 4-H Veterinary Science projects. The college’s Veterinary Nursing Program also will be represented, offering interactive activities and exhibits that enable visitors to learn about the important jobs performed by all members of the veterinary team.

Families and children will be able to pick up a Graduation Day card at the Welcome Table when they arrive and then collect stamps as they visit the various displays and participate in activities. Then, children can redeem their completed cards for a diploma and have their graduation photo taken at the information booth.

Additionally, the Food Tent in the parking area across from Lynn Hall will offer burgers, hot dogs, and sides with proceeds supporting the Equine and Food Animal Clubs.
All are welcome to attend, and enjoy a day of fun, learning and interacting with people and animals!

And this week the highlighted faculty member is J. Paul Robinson, PhD, Distinguished Professor of Cytometry and SVM Professor of Cytomics in the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Department of Basic Medical Sciences, who holds a joint appointment as professor of biomedical engineering in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering and serves as director of the Purdue University Cytometry Laboratories.

The Purdue Veterinary Medicine community is saddened to learn of the passing of an alumna and retiree, Jessie Farrington, of Rochester, New York, on February 14, 2026, due to a difficult recovery from a broken hip. She was just one month shy of her 97th birthday.

Purdue Veterinary Medicine Celebrates Indiana Agriculture at Farm to Capitol Event

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine was well represented at the second annual Farm to Capitol celebration last week in downtown Indianapolis. Hosted by Indiana’s Family of Farmers (IFOF), the event on Thursday, May 7, was held at the Bicentennial Plaza and brought together agricultural organizations, industry leaders, state employees, legislators, and members of the public.
