Dr. Suresh Mittal Named Distinguished Professor

The Purdue University Board of Trustees on Friday (Aug. 3) ratified the appointment of Dr. Suresh Mittal as Distinguished Professor of Virology in the Department of Comparative Pathobiology.

Dr. Audrey Ruple Leads Students on South African Study Abroad Experience

Dr. Audrey Ruple, assistant professor of one health epidemiology, had a goal of creating a learning opportunity for students that would help make the concept of One Health, which they learned about in the classroom, more tangible. This summer was the first time that Purdue veterinary students had the opportunity to participate in her three-week program involving travel to London and South Africa. The six veterinary students were able to see and experience the issues involved in One Health firsthand rather than just learning about it as a theory.


New Residents and Interns Join PVM Team

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine welcomed new and familiar faces this summer as interns and first-year residents arrived at Lynn Hall. The newest class of interns started at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) and Centaur Equine Specialty Hospital in June. The new residents began their orientation in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences and the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL) in July.

McAfee Animal Hospital 75th Anniversary Marks Three Generations of Veterinary Care

Saturday, July 21, was a very special day for Dr. Larry McAfee (PU DVM ’73) and his daughter Brooke (PU DVM 2011), as they celebrated the 75th anniversary of the McAfee Animal Hospital with an Open House event on the facility grounds. Brooke represents the third generation of McAfee veterinarians.


Fridgey the Bengal Cat Receives First Feline Hip Replacement Surgery at Purdue VTH

Plagued by issues with both hips, Fridgey, a two-year-old Bengel cat, underwent a procedure common in human medicine, but never before used on a feline patient at Purdue – total hip replacement surgery. Everyone in Fridgey’s treatment team at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital is working together to help Fridgey have a “pawsitive” recovery.
