Dr. Ellen Lowery Receives Faculty Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Award

When it was time for the noon Diversity Keynote at the Purdue Veterinary Conference in Stewart Center Thursday, September 19, the program began with a special presentation to a Purdue Veterinary Medicine faculty member and associate dean.  Dr. Ellen Lowery, associate dean for hospital operations and chief veterinary officer, received the Faculty Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Award, which was presented by Marsha Baker, assistant dean for diversity, equity and inclusion.


National Award Recognizes Purdue Veterinary Medicine’s Continued Excellence in Diversity

For the fifth consecutive year, the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine has received the national Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award. Presented by INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education, the award recognizes U.S. health colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. As an award recipient, the college will be featured, along with 70 other recipients, in the November/ December 2024 issue of Insight Into Diversity magazine.


Purdue Veterinary Medicine Becomes Purdue’s First Engaged College!

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine is participating in the University’s Engaged College Program (ECP), which is a new initiative developed by Purdue’s Office of Engagement to support colleges with the resources to focus on building, sustaining, assessing, bringing awareness to, and rewarding quality community engagement activities. Last Friday, August 23, it was announced that the College of Veterinary Medicine is the FIRST college to complete the Engaged College Program self-assessment and action plan!


Purdue and Akston Biosciences Sign Partnership Agreement for Dog Cancer Drug Development

Akston Biosciences Corporation, which is dedicated to accelerating the biologics revolution in Animal Health, and Purdue University have announced a strategic partnership to co-develop an anti-cPD-L1 monoclonal antibody (mAb) immunotherapy to treat cancer in dogs. The underlying technology was developed at the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine and the Purdue Institute for Cancer Research (PICR).


PVM Cares! Mission Accomplished!

August 9, 2024

The inaugural mission of PVM Cares! was to provide homework supplies to students at Miller Elementary School – Purdue Veterinary Medicine’s community partner. Thanks to many contributors of supplies and time, a total of 500 backpacks were filled at Lynn Hall by volunteers and delivered to Miller Elementary School in time for the start of the new school year. As a result, every Miller student found a backpack awaiting when the students returned to the school to meet their teachers this week.

Dr. Doris Hughes-Moore (PU DVM ’73) recognizes the importance of preserving and honoring history. Throughout her career, the Purdue Veterinary Medicine alumna has honored the legacy of her own family and that of other Black families who paved the way for her progress. She’s also cognizant of her own role in fostering Black excellence in the next generation.


Ninety Foot Long Mural Seals Willie Reed’s Art Inspired Legacy as Purdue Veterinary Medicine Dean

A stunning, expansive mural celebrating the human-animal bond and the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine’s strengths, traditions and hallmarks now graces the previously plain wall in the hallway connecting Lynn Hall with the new David and Bonnie Brunner Small Animal Hospital. Commissioned last year by then Dean Willie Reed, the mural was dedicated April 26, 2024 during a ceremony attended by faculty, staff, students and friends of the college, including those who actually helped with the painting.
