Distinguished Professor of Cytometry Paul Robinson Highlighted as National Academy of Inventors Fellow at Purdue

The Purdue Research Foundation is spotlighting National Academy of Inventors fellows at Purdue whose collaborative, multidisciplinary research is translated into real-world technologies that benefit society. And this week the highlighted faculty member is J. Paul Robinson, PhD, Distinguished Professor of Cytometry and SVM Professor of Cytomics in the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Department of Basic Medical Sciences, who holds a joint appointment as professor of biomedical engineering in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering and serves as director of the Purdue University Cytometry Laboratories.

PVM’s Senior Send Off Showcases New Graduates’ Next Giant Leaps

Regardless of the weather, spirits were bright during two special events that heralded the arrival of graduation day for veterinary technician and DVM students in Purdue Veterinary Medicine’s Class of 2026.  The College of Veterinary Medicine hosted two Senior Send-off events in the past week to give the new graduates a chance to celebrate their post-graduation plans in the company of classmates, faculty and staff.

Fourth-year Purdue Veterinary Student Wins National Simmons Business Aptitude Award

For the first time, a Purdue veterinary student has won the national Simmons Educational Fund (SEF) Business Aptitude Award. The recipient is Luke Bousema of the DVM Class of 2026.  The award includes a cash prize of $35,000.

Purdue Veterinary Student Honored by ASLAP Veterinary Student Award Program

The American Society of Laboratory Animal Practitioners (ASLAP) Foundation annually recognizes five graduating fourth-year veterinary students who have demonstrated significant interest and potential in the field, and one of this year’s honorees is Purdue veterinary student Mollie Madigan, MLAS. Through the award program, the ASLAP seeks to increase awareness of the practice of laboratory animal medicine.

CPB Graduate Student Wins Runner-Up Prize in Purdue “Say it in 6” Competition

Graduate Research Assistant Shyamkumar T.S. in the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Department of Comparative Pathobiology was recognized as the runner-up in a unique graduate student competition at Purdue this spring.  The contest is called, “Say It In 6®” and requires graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to tell their research story with only one picture and just a six-word caption.

Veterinary Technology Distance Learning program launching a new, streamlined plan of study for fall 2026

Starting in fall 2026, Purdue’s Veterinary Technology Distance Learning program will launch a streamlined curriculum that reduces total credits to 64 and allows for completion in just eight semesters. This revamped plan enhances student support by offering new elective specializations and a dedicated national exam prep course, all while maintaining the program’s high accreditation standards.

Through scholarship opportunities, Purdue’s Veterinary Technology Distance Learning Program is making veterinary education more accessible

Earning a degree in a field like veterinary technology can change lives — both for veterinary technicians themselves, who can expect stable employment and high career growth, and for the animals they care for. But earning a degree is a significant financial investment, and one that can be inaccessible to working students.

That’s why Purdue’s Veterinary Technology Distance Learning (VTDL) program created scholarship opportunities for online students. One such scholarship, the Dr. Bill Scholarship, supports working students in Purdue’s VTDL program by helping them cover the costs of laptops, textbooks and other expenses.

Annual Research Day Highlights Scientific Discovery in College of Veterinary Medicine

Purdue Veterinary Medicine celebrated veterinary medical and One Health scholarship during the 2026 PVM Research Day – an annual event hosted in April by the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Omicron Chapter of the Society of Phi Zeta, which is the Honor Society of Veterinary Medicine.  Held Friday, April 10 in Lynn Hall, the event gave faculty, residents, postdoctoral fellows, and students the opportunity to present clinical and basic research findings, and hear lectures on topics important to animal and human health.  Another special feature of the day was the Research Poster competition and the closing reception when awards were presented.

Purdue Veterinary Technology Educator and Leader Mindy Anderson Wins Top Undergraduate Teaching Award

A Purdue Veterinary Medicine alumna, longtime Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), and clinical associate professor of basic medical sciences, who also holds a PharmD degree, has received the university’s highest undergraduate teaching honor. Dr. Melinda (Mindy) Anderson, who serves as assistant dean for the Purdue Veterinary Technology Program, is one of five Purdue faculty members announced as winners of the 2026 Charles B. Murphy Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award. She was presented with the award during a surprise ceremony, which was conducted recently at the start of one of the classes she teaches in Lynn Hall.
