Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC), also referred to as Boxer Cardiomyopathy, is relatively common in Boxers and can lead to severe problems like malignant arrhythmias, heart failure, or sudden death. Notably, the Boxer breed is considered a natural model for the same disease in people. The primary goal in managing ARVC is to diagnose the disease before any symptoms arise. However, the challenge remains that there is no reliable diagnostic test available for early disease detection.
Learn MoreAtrial fibrillation is the most frequent arrhythmia in dogs and people, can impact the well-being of our beloved canines. At Purdue, we are dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of atrial fibrillation in dogs. Through comprehensive research with diagnostic tests and cardiac markers in the blood, we aim to identify key factors, potential risk indicators, and innovative treatment approaches to combat this cardiac ailment.
Learn MoreHemangiosarcoma (HSA) is a devastating disease characterized by its aggressive nature and lack of specific clinical signs until advanced metastasis occurs. Commonly leading to pericardial effusion (fluid buildup around the heart), HSA's diagnosis via minimally invasive methods like cytology and fluid analysis remains challenging. Invasive methods like biopsy are often necessary. Developing new diagnostic and prognostic tools is vital, along with establishing realistic expectations for dog owners regarding animal well-being and quality of life.
