Upcoming Purdue Veterinary Conference to Feature Presentation of Distinguished Alumni Awards

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine will recognize two more graduates as Distinguished Alumni in September during the 2024 Purdue Veterinary Conference. One honoree is Dr. F. Claire Hankenson, of the DVM Class of 1997. The other is Dr. Kelly G. Whitesel, of the DVM Class of 1972.


PVM Faculty Member Recognized by Texas A&M University as Rising Star Alumna

Dr. Michelle Tucker, Purdue Veterinary Medicine assistant professor of large animal surgery, received special recognition by her alma mater, the Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS). Dr. Tucker is one of seven Texas A&M VMBS alumni recognized in May at the college’s 2024 Outstanding Alumni & Rising Star Awards Ceremony.

PVM Cares! Mission Accomplished!

The inaugural mission of PVM Cares! was to provide homework supplies to students at Miller Elementary School – Purdue Veterinary Medicine’s community partner. Thanks to many contributors of supplies and time, a total of 500 backpacks were filled at Lynn Hall by volunteers and delivered to Miller Elementary School in time for the start of the new school year. As a result, every Miller student found a backpack awaiting when the students returned to the school to meet their teachers this week.


Plans Take Shape for 2024 Dr. Skip Jackson Dog Jog Next Month!

From Personal Struggles to Professional Triumphs

Unceasingly optimistic. That’s how colleagues describe Dr. Marejka Shaevitz, clinical assistant professor of oncology in the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine’s Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences and the Werling Comparative Oncology Research Center. Dr. Shaevitz, who completed a three-year residency program in comparative oncology at Purdue in 2020, returned to the College of Veterinary Medicine in February, expanding the number of medical oncology faculty in the Department Veterinary Clinical Sciences. Her story is one that involves facing difficult loss and challenging diagnoses herself – turning points in her life that led her on the path toward a career in veterinary oncology.
