ADDL and Farm Animal Hospital Showcased at 2024 Midwest Pork Conference

More than 300 Indiana pork producers gathered this week in Noblesville, Indiana for the 2024 Midwest Pork Conference, where they had the opportunity to interact with representatives of the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. The Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory and Purdue University Farm Animal Hospital were highlighted at the conference’s trade show, which featured more than 50 vendors and served as a center of activity for pork producers, veterinarians, legislators, and industry leaders.


Purdue Homecoming Attendees Flock to Purdue Veterinary Medicine Tent

Homecoming Saturday on the Purdue campus brought a throng of community members and Purdue alumni to the Boilermaker Boulevard where they enjoyed the opportunity to visit a host of tents featuring displays and exhibits organized by Purdue colleges and units. The booths stretched from the Purdue Gateway arch at the entrance to Stadium Mall down to the Engineering Fountain. A particularly popular location was the Purdue Veterinary Medicine tent that featured a team from the Purdue University Veterinary Hospital’s Small Animal Primary Care Service.

Scroll through the social media pages for the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, and you’ll occasionally see photos, used with permission, showing proud mares with names like Sadie and Garland Superstar standing next to their glistening foals or leaning down to nuzzle them on a bed of straw just after birth.  While not every new colt or filly is announced on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, they are all celebrated by a team led by Dr. Justin Hayna, clinical assistant professor of equine theriogenology.  A board-certified theriogenologist, Dr. Hayna and his team of veterinary nurses and veterinary medicine students provide comprehensive equine reproductive care.


New Purdue University Veterinary Hospital Interns Begin Advanced Clinical Training

One of the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine’s summer traditions involves the arrival of a new class of small and large animal interns seeking advanced clinical training. A total of 14 new interns started last month when they participated in a two-week orientation.

Oncology Service to Host Ultrasound Screening for High-Risk Dog Breeds

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital’s Medical Oncology Service to host Ultrasound Screenings, focusing on early detection and intervention for dog breeds at increased risk of bladder cancer. Targeting Scottish Terriers, West Highland Terriers, Beagles, and Shetland Sheepdogs, the screenings aim to utilize non-invasive ultrasound technology to identify potential urinary system abnormalities, including tumors.


Signature Indiana Pork Event at Indianapolis Provides Visibility for Purdue Veterinary Medicine

Each year, the Indiana Pork Producers Association, known as Indiana Pork, hosts the Taste of Elegance event in Indianapolis as a way of promoting the pork industry through the creation of tantalizing pork dishes prepared by leading chefs. This year the event on January 17 attracted more than 400 pork farmers, lawmakers, agricultural industry leaders, and dignitaries to the Indiana Roof Ballroom for an evening of elegance and celebration that also provided visibility for the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine.
