In Memory – Dr. Carole Ann Bolin (PU DVM ’82)

The Purdue Veterinary Medicine community is saddened to learn that a dedicated alumna, Dr. Carole Bolin, passed away Wednesday, February 12, in Lansing, Michigan, after a long and courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was 67.


PVM Alumnus Kyle Shipman Named as New State Veterinarian

February 21, 2025

It’s official – Dr. Kyle Shipman (PU DVM 2015) is the new Indiana State Veterinarian. The decision to select Dr. Shipman to fill the vacancy was made by the 11 members of the Indiana State Board of Animal Health during their regular January meeting, which was followed by formal approval from the governor.


Dr. Darryl Ragland Named as Purdue Veterinary Medicine Extension Director

Purdue Professor of Food Animal Production Medicine Darryl Ragland has been selected as the director of extension for the College of Veterinary Medicine. In that role, he will oversee the activities of the college’s extension service, which shares practical applications of Purdue research with livestock producers in Indiana and around the world, and enables Hoosier farmers to raise animals using healthy and sustainable livestock production practices.


Strong turnout for Purdue Veterinary Medicine’s Equine Wellness Forum Demonstrates Value of Equine Health Education

The 2025 Equine Wellness Forum attracted an enthusiastic audience that included additional attendees who participated virtually. The day-long continuing education event hosted by the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine on Saturday, February 8, highlighted the value of the equine health education provided by the college to equine enthusiasts.


Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine Names New Assistant Dean for Administration

A key administrator in the College of Veterinary Medicine has been appointed to a new leadership role. Leslie Martin, who previously served as director of financial affairs, became the assistant dean for administration, effective June 1. The newly created position is responsible for directly overseeing administrative processes, financial management and business operations while managing a team of staff.


Purdue Alumnus and Longtime Industry Veterinarian Joins Veterinary College

February 2, 2025

A Purdue Veterinary Medicine graduate with extensive work experience in the animal health industry returned to his alma mater to focus on strategic industry partnerships. Dr. Tony Rumschlag (PU DVM ’85) accepted the position of executive director of corporate relations for the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, effective March 31.


College Appoints Experienced Agricultural Leader to Strengthen Constituent Relationships

Julia Wickard, a longtime agricultural leader in Indiana, was appointed as the college’s new constituent liaison and executive director of the Purdue Veterinary Alumni Association, effective Feb. 24. Wickard, of Greenfield, Indiana, previously served as the state executive director of the USDA Farm Service Agency . Her new position represents a homecoming for the Purdue alumna, who earned her BA degree in agricultural communications and political science.


AVMA Names Purdue Veterinary Medicine’s Dr. Jim Weisman as Chief of Academic Affairs, Research & Accreditation

A longtime Purdue Veterinary Medicine faculty member and administrator will apply his experience, expertise and dedication to the veterinary medical profession at the national level as he begins serving as chief of academic affairs, research and accreditation for the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Dr. Jim Weisman’s appointment to the position was announced by the AVMA Wednesday, January 29.


In Memory – Dr. Timothy (Tim) Boosinger (PU DVM ’76, PhD ’83)

The Purdue Veterinary Medicine community is deeply saddened by the passing of a distinguished alumnus and national leader in veterinary medicine, Dr. Timothy (Tim) Boosinger, of Auburn, Alabama, who died January 27, 2025, after a valiant fight against pancreatic cancer and its complications. He was 74.


Healing Eyes, Changing Lives: Saving a White Tiger’s Vision

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital’s ophthalmology team recently conducted a life-changing surgery for Prince, a six-year-old white tiger residing at Black Pine Animal Sanctuary (BPAS) in Albion, Indiana. The procedure marked a significant step in restoring the tiger’s vision, which had been severely impaired due to poor breeding practices and inadequate care in his earlier years.
