College of Veterinary Medicine Graduates Honored at Two Ceremonies During Purdue’s 2026 Commencement Weekend

A change in Purdue University’s traditional commencement weekend schedule resulted in two ceremonies recognizing graduates of the College of Veterinary Medicine in May. This year, veterinary technology graduates were honored at a ceremony that was separate from the commencement program for the DVM graduates. That’s because the university recognized all doctoral degree candidates in a single ceremony on Saturday, May 16. As a result, the veterinary technology degree recipients were honored Thursday, May 14, at one of several ceremonies for undergraduate degree candidates. Following that ceremony, the college hosted its traditional oath ceremony for the 2026 graduates of the Purdue Veterinary Technology program in the Purdue Memorial Union North Ballroom.

Purdue Veterinary Medicine Launches Pet Care App for Apple Platforms

As part of a partnership with Purdue University’s Spatial Computing Hub, the College of Veterinary Medicine launched Purdue Vet Med (PVM) Pro Tips for companion animal owners. The app, which is available for Apple Vision Pro, iPad and iPhone, offers step-by-step tutorials for providing at-home care to cats, dogs, horses and birds.

Mindy Anderson, PharmD, BS, RVT, assistant dean for Veterinary Technology Programs and clinical associate professor of basic medical sciences, is one of the newest Purdue faculty members to be announced as an inductee into the Purdue University Teaching Academy. The university just announced this week a total of 11 Teaching Academy inductees for 2026, in recognition of their outstanding and scholarly teaching in graduate, undergraduate or engagement programs.

Regardless of the weather, spirits were bright during two special events that heralded the arrival of graduation day for veterinary technician and DVM students in Purdue Veterinary Medicine’s Class of 2026. The College of Veterinary Medicine hosted two Senior Send-off events in the past week to give the new graduates a chance to celebrate their post-graduation plans in the company of classmates, faculty and staff.

Starting in fall 2026, Purdue’s Veterinary Technology Distance Learning program will launch a streamlined curriculum that reduces total credits to 64 and allows for completion in just eight semesters. This revamped plan enhances student support by offering new elective specializations and a dedicated national exam prep course, all while maintaining the program’s high accreditation standards.

That’s why Purdue’s Veterinary Technology Distance Learning (VTDL) program created scholarship opportunities for online students. One such scholarship, the Dr. Bill Scholarship, supports working students in Purdue’s VTDL program by helping them cover the costs of laptops, textbooks and other expenses.

Purdue Veterinary Technology Educator and Leader Mindy Anderson Wins Top Undergraduate Teaching Award

A Purdue Veterinary Medicine alumna, longtime Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), and clinical associate professor of basic medical sciences, who also holds a PharmD degree, has received the university’s highest undergraduate teaching honor. Dr. Melinda (Mindy) Anderson, who serves as assistant dean for the Purdue Veterinary Technology Program, is one of five Purdue faculty members announced as winners of the 2026 Charles B. Murphy Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award. She was presented with the award during a surprise ceremony, which was conducted recently at the start of one of the classes she teaches in Lynn Hall.

Through study abroad opportunities, Purdue’s Veterinary Technology Distance Learning program is helping students think globally

Promoting animal health is a value that transcends cultures and unites the world. That’s why there are veterinary professionals practicing in nearly every country around the globe. But access to high-quality, affordable veterinary care is far from universal — in many nations, particularly developing nations, access to veterinarians is inconsistent, and affordability is a concern all over the world. To confidently address these issues, veterinary professionals must be able to think globally.

That’s why Purdue Veterinary Medicine encourages students to study abroad, including those in the Veterinary Technology Distance Learning Program (VTDL). “Study abroad enriches our online curriculum by bringing classroom concepts to life in a global, real-world context,” said Addison Sheldon, the college’s director of global engagement. The VTDL program offers students the option to study abroad in Guatemala, Japan and Zimbabwe by partnering with local universities and organizations.

Purdue Veterinary Technology Program Distance Learners Celebrate Graduation at Lynn Hall Ceremony

December marked a major milestone in the lives of Purdue Veterinary Technology Distance Learning Program (VTDL) students who graduated as members of the Class of 2025. In conjunction with Purdue University’s Winter Commencement ceremonies, the College of Veterinary Medicine held its traditional Veterinary Technology Graduation Celebration in Lynn Hall December 21, when the new Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology Degree recipients were honored and recited the Veterinary Technician Oath.

To kick off Purdue Veterinary Medicine’s celebration of Veterinary Technician Week, the college hosted an event called “Thanks a ‘Hole’ Bunch Donuts and Coffee” Tuesday morning, October 14 in the Brunner Small Animal Hospital Joy Matson Room.
