About Farriers

Farriers are equine hoof-care professionals. They shape and fit horseshoes as well as clean, trim, and shape horse hooves.

Farriers use tools like rasps and nippers to trim and shape horse hooves. They can adjust, reshape, and apply horseshoes to the hooves if required. Horseshoes are available in different sizes, weights, and designs for use with a wide variety of horses.

Recommendations

  • You should generally trim your horse's hooves every six to eight weeks.
  • Consult your farrier for recommendations on hoof care for your horse.
