Frequently Asked Questions

Applications are reviewed by a selection committee and campers are selected based upon the merit of their application. In early March emails are sent out notifying applicants of their status: accepted, alternate, or declined. Accepted applicants will have approximately a one month period to accept their camper position, and to submit their camp payment in full and final paperwork. If circumstances have changed, admitted campers are requested to quickly decline their camper position so that alternates can be contacted. If an applicant misses this deadline, the first alternate will be notified that a camper spot is available. Campers will receive the Boiler Vet Camp Survival Guide which will provide all necessary information about what to bring to camp and other camp details.

The application deadline will be 02/03/25 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET).

The Junior Camp will accept applicants that will be entering 8th and 9th grade in the fall of 2025. Campers must be a minimum of 12 years of age by June 1, 2025.

The Senior Camp will accept applicants that will be entering 10th, 11th, and 12th grade in the fall of 2025. Students who have graduated the 12th grade will not be accepted.

DO NOT send any money with your application. If you do send money, it will be returned back to you as a voided check. If accepted to camp, registration and payment will be completed via an online portal. Full camp fee payment will be required by April 1.

The camp fee covers all expenses for the entire week of events and activities of the Boiler Vet Camp. This includes housing and meals. The money pays for supplies for activities, transportation, t-shirts, and more.

  • Junior Boiler Vet Camp is $1,300 for the 7 day camp.
  • Senior Boiler Vet Camp is $1,600 for the 7 day camp.

The College of Veterinary Medicine has partnered with many great supporters of the veterinary medical profession to identify scholarships for Boiler Vet Camp attendees.

In regards to scholarship awarding, the order in which we receive the applications will be important. Applicants are offered admission first and then we will consider and offer financial assistance at that point. Should you be offered camp admission as well as a camp scholarship, this information will be in your acceptance packet. We encourage you to complete the application and required supporting documentation for financial assistance at your earliest convenience. See the scholarship page for specific information required to be considered for a scholarship.

  • If a refund is requested before May 1, you may receive up to a 100% refund.
  • If a refund is requested between May 1–May 15, you may receive up to a 50% refund.
  • If a refund is requested after May 15, you will no longer be able to receive a refund of any sort.

For the Junior Camp, we are accepting 50 students. This is a very competitive process based on the review of applications. Camp enrollment is NOT on a first-come, first-serve basis. Applications will be reviewed by the selection committee after the deadline and applicants will be notified of their decision shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, we have space and resource limitations, so we cannot accept everyone who applies. Please remember that if you do not get into Boiler Vet Camp, it does not exclude you from applying for the following year's camp and we encourage you to do so.

For the Senior Camp, we are accepting only 50 students. This camp is even more competitive than the Junior Camp because of the limited space in our teaching hospital. Again, camper enrollment is NOT on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Application does not imply acceptance. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate every single applicant. The application process is very competitive. The selection committee will review the applications once the application deadline has passed. Applicants will be notified of the selection committee's decision soon thereafter. Applicants will be placed into three categories: accepted, alternate, or declined. Accepted applicants will be given approximately one month to return their accepted camper final packet which includes specific camper information, camper health forms, and camp payment. If this deadline is missed, then their camper position is forfeited and offered to the next person on the alternate list.

Students will write essays relating to their interest in the Veterinary Medical profession and relating to what they want to get out of Boiler Vet Camp. The applications will be reviewed by the selection committee, and students will be selected based on the merit of their applications. No preference is given to Indiana residents or various socio-economic classes.

Yes, we encourage non-Indiana residents to apply as we have a strong mix of students from across the country.

Please find the schedules for the Junior and Senior Camps under their respective links on the Boiler Vet Camp home page.

Campers must be able to arrive to camp on Sunday mid-afternoon and then depart Saturday mid-afternoon.  The camp is designed for campers to be in-residence for the entire run of camp.  If you have other commitments during the camp week, then you should not apply.

Campers will stay in an air-conditioned residence hall on campus. The campers will be paired with one roommate. There will be community bathrooms equipped with showers. The rooms are NOT Co-ed; boys will live on one floor of the residence hall and girls will live on a different floor of the residence hall. Camp counselors and the faculty chairperson will also be living in the residence hall to ensure the safety of our campers. This is an overnight in-residence camp. This means that parents will drop off their camper on Sunday and pick them up the following Saturday.

If you have already attended Junior Camp, you may not attend Junior Camp again. Because we have limited space, we want to give the opportunity to as many students as possible. Additionally, if you have attended Senior Camp, you may not attend Senior Camp again. However, if you have attended the Junior Camp, you ARE eligible for the Senior Camp.
