Veterinary Nursing Stop-Out Policy
In the event a second-fourth year VNRS student must take one semester or more away from the program for non-academic reasons, the following will apply to begin the program again.
The student will be required to meet with their Academic Advisor and the Director of the Veterinary Nursing program to discuss their re-entry.
The student will be asked to identify and demonstrate their plan to be successful in the program after having been away for any length of time. Questions could include:
- In your time away from the program, what have you done to address your matter so it does not negatively impact your academic success?
- How have you maintained your knowledge of Veterinary Nursing to pick up where you left off? What resources will you/have you been using to retain your knowledge?
- What supports do you have in place to help you be successful in the Veterinary Nursing program?
A committee formed of the Academic Advisor, Director of the Veterinary Nursing program, a clinical coordinator and/or instructional technologist will review the student’s history with the program, reason for departure, plan for successful re-entry, and more to determine if the student will be permitted to re-enter the program.
A student may be denied re-entry into the program for various reasons, including but not limited to:
- Behavioral Issues: Instances of misconduct, violation of academic integrity policies, disruptive behavior, or unethical conduct.
- Professional Standards: Failure to meet the program standards of ethics, professionalism, or clinical competency.
- Non-compliance with Program Policies: Students are expected to comply with program policies, including deadlines for assignments, attendance requirements, and other administrative procedures. Persistent non-compliance or disregard for program policies may result in denial of re-entry.
- Health or Personal Issues: In some cases, health issues, personal circumstances, or other extenuating factors may impact a student's ability to continue in the program. If these issues significantly interfere with the student's academic performance or ability to meet program requirements, re-entry may be denied until the issues are addressed.
- Limited Program Capacity: In programs with limited enrollment capacity, re-entry may be denied due to space constraints. Space will not be held in any cohort for any student.
If the student is permitted to re-enter the program, they will be required to purchase new attire to match the new cohort, previous attire will not be permitted.
Decisions are final and no appeals will be accepted.
