The American Society of Laboratory Animal Practitioners (ASLAP) Foundation annually recognizes five graduating fourth-year veterinary students who have demonstrated significant interest and potential in the field, and one of this year’s honorees is Purdue veterinary student Mollie Madigan, MLAS. Through the award program, the ASLAP seeks to increase awareness of the practice of laboratory animal medicine.
After graduation, Madigan looks forward to starting her American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) training as a resident at MIT in July. “My main research interests are transplant medicine and neurodegenerative diseases, and my biggest aspiration is to one day become the attending veterinarian at a pharmaceutical facility and be a part of the medical team that works to ensure the care and wellbeing of the animals that help us find a cure for Parkinson’s Disease,” Madigan said. “I am very passionate about helping both humans and animals and I cannot wait to contribute my own work to biomedical discoveries that may inspire future laboratory animal professionals in the same way that I was inspired.”
The Veterinary Student Award Program aligns with the ASLAP Foundation’s mission of securing the future of the laboratory animal practice specialty through involvement with and education of today’s veterinary students. Congratulations Mollie Madigan!
