The Purdue Veterinary Medicine community is saddened to learn of the passing of an alumnus and dedicated veterinarian, Dr. Cornelius “Neil” Vanderkolk, of Oxford, Indiana, who died June 8, 2025. He was 75.


Purdue Researchers Develop a Novel Human Brain Model to Study Alzheimer’s Disease

Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine researchers are taking an innovative approach to studying Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Ranjie Xu, an assistant professor in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences and a member of the Purdue Institute for Integrative Neuroscience, has developed a sophisticated 3D human mini-brain model to reveal new insights into how the disease progresses and to validate promising new treatments.


PVM Welcomes New Class of Veterinary Hospital Interns and Pharmacy Residents

More than a dozen new interns and two new pharmacy residents are beginning their advanced training in the Purdue University Veterinary Hospital. The group of interns includes ten veterinarians who are completing small animal rotating internships and four who are doing large animal rotating internships. In addition, two pharmacy school graduates are starting the one year Wasson Veterinary Pharmacy Residency program, which is jointly offered by the Purdue Colleges of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy.

Recognition Ceremony Honors VCS Residents, Graduate Students, and Purdue Veterinary Hospital Interns

More than 100 faculty and staff of the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) and the Purdue University Veterinary Hospital (PVH) gathered at Lafayette’s Thomas Duncan Hall on Thursday, June 26 for the 2025 Resident and Intern Recognition Ceremony. The historic venue was a wonderful place to host this annual event that honors and celebrates the accomplishments of the VCS and PVH residents, interns, and graduate students who are completing their programs this summer.

The Purdue Veterinary Medicine community is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a member of the Purdue DVM Class of 2009, Dr. Jennifer Anderson-Schmeltz, of Mishawaka, Indiana, who died June 13 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 42.
