Building on Scholarly Excellence, Veterinary Medicine Postdoc Researcher Pursues Solutions to Global Crisis in Countering Antibiotic Resistance, Superbugs

Years of growing resistance to antibiotics have sparked an urgent global health crisis, giving rise to challenging biological threats and the emergence of more dangerous viral, fungal and bacterial strains, commonly called superbugs. Compounding the threat is the difficulty in a quick diagnosis, complicating how to effectively treat these illnesses. Purdue postdoctoral researcher Sharath Iyengar in the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Department of Basic Medical Sciences spends hours in the G221 laboratory at Lynn Hall, seeking answers to this health challenge.

PVM Ensures that Animal Health is Included in Purdue’s Healthy Boiler Fair

When the Purdue Memorial Union Ballroom doors opened for the Healthy Boiler Fair recently, the Purdue University Veterinary Hospital was among the Purdue services and departments represented.  The event on Wednesday, October 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., featured an exhibit area that included tables and displays staffed by more than 30 vendors and departments from Purdue and the community.


Students Honored for Completing Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program

Nearly 30 students were recognized this week at the start of the Current Issues in Veterinary Medicine class held on Tuesday, October 15 for their achievement in earning the Certificate for Diversity and Inclusion in Veterinary Medicine.  The certificate is offered through an online program that involves a combination of learning modules, activity assignments, a volunteer community service assignment, and a capstone paper.


New Staff Member Joins PVM Student Success Center

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine welcomes Jennifer Ulutas as the new Lead Administrative Assistant in the Office of Student Success.  Jennifer started September 23.  In her role she will provide direct frontline support to students, staff, and faculty, as well as visitors to the Student Success Center.


PVM’s United Way Champion Angela Pickett Steps into University Campaign Spotlight

As the Purdue United Way Campaign entered week three Monday, the university put the spotlight on the College of Veterinary Medicine’s United Way Campaign Champion, Angela Pickett, who serves as executive assistant to the dean. That’s because Purdue United Way Campaign Director Lisa Duncan wanted to share Angela’s personal story that highlights how Purdue employees’ support for United Way can truly make a difference in the Lafayette-West Lafayette community.

Purdue Homecoming Attendees Flock to Purdue Veterinary Medicine Tent

Homecoming Saturday on the Purdue campus brought a throng of community members and Purdue alumni to the Boilermaker Boulevard where they enjoyed the opportunity to visit a host of tents featuring displays and exhibits organized by Purdue colleges and units. The booths stretched from the Purdue Gateway arch at the entrance to Stadium Mall down to the Engineering Fountain. A particularly popular location was the Purdue Veterinary Medicine tent that featured a team from the Purdue University Veterinary Hospital’s Small Animal Primary Care Service.

Dr. Ellen Lowery Receives Faculty Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Award

When it was time for the noon Diversity Keynote at the Purdue Veterinary Conference in Stewart Center Thursday, September 19, the program began with a special presentation to a Purdue Veterinary Medicine faculty member and associate dean.  Dr. Ellen Lowery, associate dean for hospital operations and chief veterinary officer, received the Faculty Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Award, which was presented by Marsha Baker, assistant dean for diversity, equity and inclusion.
