Don’t Miss “The Secret Life of Vets” Lecture and PVM Alumni Reception at 2020 VMX

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine is putting on two events during VMX, the national Veterinary Meeting and Expo in Orlando, Fla., in January.  The first event is the Human-Animal Bond Lecture co-sponsored by the College and Elanco Animal Health, featuring a presentation entitled, “The Secret Life of Vets:  Embracing the Human-Animal Bond.”  The talk by Dr. Zenithson Ng, clinical associate professor in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, will take place Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 5:45-6:45 p.m. in the Orange County Convention Center South.

Veterinarians are arguably the professionals who are most attuned to the human-animal bond and all that it has to offer. If the benefits of human-animal interactions touted by scholars hold true, then why do veterinarians, who interact with animals every day, suffer from mental health conditions that even the human-animal bond cannot cure? Practical strategies and future research directions for utilizing the human-animal bond to improve the welfare and well-being of both veterinarians and animals alike will be explored in Dr. Ng’s presentation.  Dr. Ng’s research interests include the effect of animal-assisted interventions on both humans and animals, enhancement of the veterinarian-client relationship, and assessment of stress and animal welfare.

Attendees must be registered for the VMX conference in order to attend. Click here to learn more.

Additionally, join your Purdue Veterinary Medicine colleagues for the PVM Alumni and Friends Reception, which will be held on Sunday, January 19, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Orlando – Celebration 5 (9801 International Drive, Orlando, FL 32819).  RSVP to Susan Xioufaridou at vetalumni@purdue.edu if you plan on attending.
