The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine was well represented at the “Health and Disease: Science, Technology, Culture, and Policy” poster session with three Department of Comparative Pathobiology graduate students earning top prizes. Held March 1 in the Purdue Memorial Union’s South Ballroom, the poster session aimed to promote interdisciplinary collaboration in health and disease research with more than 120 abstracts submitted by students all across Purdue’s West Lafayette campus. Posters could be submitted under six categories, with a monetary prize awarded to the top three in each category. The categories included: Cancer; Inflammation, Immunology, and Infectious Diseases; Neuroscience and Neurodegenerative Diseases; Obesity and Related Diseases; Prevention and Wellness; and Other.
Ahmed Hassan, who is studying microbiology with Dr. Mohamed Seleem, associate professor of microbiology, earned first-place with his poster in the Inflammation, Immunology, and Infectious Diseases category. Alexandra Dieterly, mentored by Dr. Tiffany Lyle, assistant professor of veterinary anatomic pathology, placed second in the Cancer category. Finally, Kerri Rodriguez, who is studying human-animal interaction with Dr. Maggie O’Haire, assistant professor of human-animal interaction, earned third-place in the Prevention and Wellness category.
Purdue Veterinary Medicine co-sponsored the poster competition along with the College of Agriculture, College of Engineering, College of Health and Human Sciences, College of Liberal Arts, College of Pharmacy, College of Science, Purdue Polytechnic Institute, and Purdue University Libraries.
