Vet Up National HCOP Academy for Vet Med

Providing opportunities and support for equity-minded individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds to enter the veterinary profession and serve society by advancing public health, ensuring food safety, or serving rural areas.

Vet Up!® consists of three programs with a competitive selection process for admissions:

Level up! Become a Champion!

Vet Up!© Champions is a career exploration program geared toward underrepresented and/or underserved students interested in exploring the veterinary medical field and its related professions. Students can have any level of interest in pursuing a career in this field, as this program’s intention is to assist in making a well-informed decision. Students will learn directly from PVM faculty and staff via virtual learning sessions, as well as other experts, regarding important topics in the field; various careers, disciplines, and work settings; the educational paths to these professions; professional development topics; and personal wellness. Participants will also gain hands-on opportunities, tours of PVM’s teaching hospitals, and more during a summer campus visit.

Program intended for high school juniors & seniors, college freshmen & sophomores, and adult nontraditional students who have not previously earned a bachelor’s degree.

STRENGTHEN YOUR VETERINARY SCHOOL APPLICATION

The Vet Up!© College is a 6-week summer program that allows underrepresented and/or underserved students gain experiences and opportunities that increase their competitiveness as future veterinary school applicants. Participants gain a glimpse of what being a veterinary student is like by spending the first 4 weeks at PVM experiencing coursework, clinical skills labs, industry trips, study groups, and more. Then, 2 weeks are spent at a clinical placement site located in each participant’s local area gaining veterinary experience.*

Program intended for college students who will be entering their junior or senior year immediately following completion of this summer program (current college sophomores, juniors, and nongraduating seniors who will not have completed a bachelor’s degree before the program’s completion).

* Clinical placement site matching is not guaranteed as there are many variables involved in locating an available and willing site in a particular geographic area. We utilize a partnership with National Veterinary Associates to assist with the search, and Vet Up! staff will make significant efforts to match all participants.

Thrive in Veterinary Medicine

The Vet Up!© DVM Scholars is an invitation-only program specifically for current Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine DVM degree program students who participated in Vet Up! Champions or Vet Up! College previously. The program provides academic, social, professional development, and financial support to support participants from matriculation through DVM degree program completion and entrance into the workforce.

Eligible students may be invited to apply upon matriculation into the DVM degree program at the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine.
