Mahmoud Ahmed Bio
Mahmoud Ahmed
Master's Student
Mahmoud Ahmed is a dedicated researcher and dentist with a compelling background in microbiology and clinical research. He earned his dental degree from the Faculty of Dentistry at Pharos University, Alexandria, Egypt, in 2019, where he developed a deep interest in microbial research and its impact on human health. His research experience includes investigating the role of oral microbiota in periodontal disease, utilizing techniques such as microbial culture and PCR. Mahmoud has further honed his expertise through internships at Benha University, and Fararh Laboratories, where he gained hands-on experience in molecular applications, bacterial culture, and biochemical testing. In addition to his research, he has been practicing dentistry since 2020, working at multiple healthcare centers, specializing in restorative, extraction, and complete denture cases. His commitment to professional development is evident in his participation in international dental conferences and specialized training workshops, covering topics such as implant dentistry, infection control, and endodontics. Mahmoud is eager to contribute to interdisciplinary research that bridges the gap between microbiology and clinical applications, ultimately advancing patient care and disease prevention.

Undergraduate Student
I am a junior biochemistry major in the College of Agriculture, following a pre-veterinary concentration. My current role as an undergraduate in the Hassan Lab is to harvest and collect E. coli protein pellets, specifically those containing the genetic coding for the MtgA protein, for future inoculation in vaccine production. Aside from undergraduate research, I have worked with the company IDEXX in their parasitology lab to prepare veterinary fecal samples for analysis and diagnosis.
Outside of my laboratory work, I can usually be found reading, studying for exams, or preparing my veterinary school application. With my DVM I aspire to work in veterinary pathology research, developing medicines; vaccines; or making new discoveries.

Undergraduate Research Experience Purdue - Colombia (UREP-C)
Hi! My name is Etna González-Granados, and I’m an undergraduate Microbiology student at La Universidad de los Andes in Colombia. During my time at my home university, I’ve had the chance to work on some fascinating research projects, like studying antimicrobial properties and investigating immune responses to infections.
At the Ahmed AMR Lab, I focus on developing multi-antigen vaccines to protect against Clostridioides difficile infection. I’m especially passionate about exploring the complex interactions between host and pathogen, and I’m thrilled to contribute to expanding our understanding of these processes.
When I’m not in the lab, I love spending time reading—it’s a great way to stay balanced and find inspiration for my work!
