Job Summary
We are seeking applicants for a new endowed professorship in toxicologic pathology at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine.
This is a full-time (12-Month) Tenure Track Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Veterinary Pathology in the Department of Comparative Pathobiology.
Principal Duties
Establish a research program that supports biomedical discovery within the university and externally. Tremendous opportunity for collaborative research currently exists through the Center for Clinical Translational Research (CTR). State-of-the-art laboratory space for independent research is available for interested individuals.
Comparative pathology may be broadly defined as the integrative study to gain knowledge by comparing disease mechanisms across species and use this to benefit both human and animal health.
Teaching responsibilities include teaching, instructing, or mentoring graduate and/or DVM students.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a D.V.M. (or equivalent) and Ph.D. in a related discipline, Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, and a record of research excellence as demonstrated by high-quality peer-reviewed publications. Those applying for the position of Associate Professor level must have a strong record of extramural funding or significant scholarship. Salary will be commensurate with training and experience.

Description
A position is available for a highly motivated PhD student with Dr. Leanne Nieforth at the Center for the Human-Animal Bond at the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. The research program will focus on biopsychosocial outcomes of human-canine and human-equine interactions.
The successful applicant will be involved in experimental design, data collection and analysis and scientific writing. The applicant will work closely with collaborators and will mentor undergraduate research assistants.
Qualifications & Skills
Interested applicants must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to human-animal interaction (e.g., psychology, human development and family studies, public health, epidemiology, veterinary medicine, communication, education, biology, zoology, sociology, animal sciences). The ideal applicant will also have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
We are seeking candidates with a range of skills which may include but is not limited to:
- Project Management Experience (e.g., developing and executing experimental protocols, participant recruitment and retention, management of research data)
- Mentorship Experience (e.g., undergraduate research assistants)
- Psycho-physiology Experience (e.g., salivary cortisol, microbiome, ecological momentary assessment)
- Writing Experience (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, grant writing)
- Software Experience (e.g., Microsoft Office, REDCap, R, SAS, Qualtrics)
The position will start in August 2024. It will be full time with the expectation of graduation within four years (PhD). There may be opportunities to start sooner if interested.
Support
A limited number of university assistantships and fellowships are available to highly qualified students. Incoming and continuing students can also apply for individual pre-doctoral training awards from the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. These fellowships provide 12-month support and fee remission and have award periods of up to 3 years. These fellowships require a separate application to the awarding agency by the student with a letter of support from the major professor. Residency Graduate Student / Non-Thesis MS

The Department of Comparative Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine, at Purdue University, has an opening in a three-year combined non-thesis MS/residency graduate program in Veterinary Clinical Pathology. This program offers: 1) broad experience in the areas of hematology, clinical chemistry, and diagnostic cytology, and 2) training that will enable the resident to sit for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists upon completion of the program. Responsibilities include graduate course work in pathology and other disciplines which will be selected by the student and their advisory committee, participation in the clinical pathology service rotation (including emergency calls), and teaching professional veterinary students, vet tech students, interns, and residents. The starting stipend for this position will be at least $33,000 per year with benefits and a tuition waiver. The tentative start date is July 1, 2024. This individual joins two other clinical pathology trainees and three clinical pathologists.
Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree. Individuals who desire PhD training upon completion of the program are especially encouraged to apply. The Department of Comparative Pathobiology (CPB; http://vet.purdue.edu/cpb/index.php) and the Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL; http://vet.purdue.edu/addl) at Purdue University seek applications from veterinarians or veterinary students in the final year of the professional curriculum who are committed to a career in veterinary diagnostic microbiology. This challenging and rewarding three-year program culminates in a non-thesis M.S. degree and fulfills the training requirements for the certifying examination of the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists (ACVM). There is an opportunity to pursue diagnostic research that can be developed into an optional PhD program upon completion of the residency requirements. The program is based on supervised diagnostic microbiology service in the ADDL, graduate courses, seminars in microbiology and related disciplines, supervised teaching assignments in CPB, and a scholarly project in diagnostic or experimental microbiology.

POULTRY DIAGNOSTIC MEDICINE RESIDENCY

The Department of Comparative Pathobiology (CPB; https://vet.purdue.edu/cpb/) within the Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine, in conjunction with the Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL; https://vet.purdue.edu/addl/) at Purdue University, seek applications from veterinarians or veterinary students in the final year of their professional curriculum who are committed to a career in poultry diagnostic medicine and pathology. While the program focuses on poultry, the candidate will be expected to learn key pathologic conditions of all avian species including pet birds and wild life. This challenging and rewarding two year program culminates in a non-thesis M.S. degree and fulfills the training requirements for the certifying examination of the American College of Poultry Veterinarians (ACPV). The program is based on supervised postmortem examinations, histopathology, practical field visits to Indiana poultry producers, backyard/small flock visits, graduate courses and seminars in pathology and related disciplines, supervised teaching assignments in CPB, and a required scholarly project in diagnostic or experimental pathology. Faculty members in CPB include poultry and mammalian pathologists, epidemiologists, microbiologists, toxicologists, parasitologists and other scientists. Additional strengths include interactions with residents in veterinary anatomic pathology, veterinary clinical pathology, veterinary microbiology, and graduate research scientists.

NIH funded Post-Doctoral Research Associate position is available immediately to study fungal-host interactions in Thangamani Lab; https://thangamanilab.com/ at Purdue University, USA. Recent PhD graduates in Immunology/Microbiology/host-pathogen interactions preferably in fungal/bacterial pathogens are encouraged to apply. Major research projects include understanding the colonization resistance and host defense mechanisms to fungal pathogens using various mouse models of infection.

1-year Post-doctoral Associate position in Infectious Diseases Epidemiology, Purdue University
Applications are invited for a full-time Post-doctoral Associate position in the Infectious Diseases Epidemiology Laboratory at Purdue Veterinary Medicine, headed by Dr. Wendy Beauvais.
The Post-doctoral Associate will work for approximately 15-20% of their time on the following project, which is funded by USDA: Improving disease preparedness amongst small-scale poultry owners. This project team includes faculty members at Purdue and at SAFOSO in Switzerland. The team is seeking a self-motivated individual who will nurture a diverse, collaborative, supportive and productive research environment.
The remaining 80-85% of the post-doc’s full-time effort will be used to support other ongoing research projects and to develop research proposals aligned with the post-doc’s interests including quantitative and qualitative methods applied to infectious disease epidemiology problems e.g., zoonotic influenza, antimicrobial resistance in human and animal settings.
Salary and health insurance benefits will be provided. The position is available to start as soon as possible.
Applicants must have the ability to acquire an Indiana driver’s license and be prepared to travel throughout the state of Indiana to visit poultry owners. Previous training or experience in conducting surveys or with poultry husbandry would be an advantage but is not required.

2-Year Post-Doctoral Associate position in
Infectious Disease Drug Discovery & Therapeutics

Applications are invited for a 2-year Post-Doctoral Associate position in Infectious Disease Drug Discovery & Therapeutics Laboratory at Purdue Veterinary Medicine. The group is headed by Dr. Christopher A. Rice in the Department of Comparative Pathobiology at Purdue University. The Rice lab studies drug discovery and development against various pathogenic free-living amoebae, including the brain-eating diseases caused by Naegleria fowleri, Balamuthia mandrillaris, and Acanthamoeba species. Using high-throughput screening techniques and secondary assays for prioritization, we will discover novel hit candidates and progress late-lead pharmacophores through animal models of disease to identify drug-like molecules for the development of new drug treatment regimens for these orphan diseases.
Highly self-motivated candidates with strong background and experience in drug discovery, cell culture inhibition assays, in vivo infection studies, and molecular biology techniques (PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, dPCR, CRISPR, and RNAi) are invited to apply.
