Veterinary Technology Symposium

Katie graduated from Purdue University’s Veterinary Technology program with a bachelors in 2009. From there, she started working as a procedure/floor tech in Internal Medicine at Purdue University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital. She stayed at Purdue from 2011-2019. She then moved to Georgia and worked at the University of Georgia’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital in the Internal Medicine department from 2019 - 2022. After her brief stent in the south, she decided it was time to come back home. Katie started working again at Purdue’s Vet School but was a supervisor of technicians for a few departments while working primarily in Internal Medicine. She met her future fiancé and moved to Indianapolis in 2024 where she worked at VCA Advanced Veterinary Care Center in the Internal Medicine Department before starting at MedVet Indianapolis in their Internal Medicine department where she currently works. She obtained her Veterinary Technician Specialty license in Small Animal Internal Medicine in the summer of 2025. Areas of Medicine she particularly enjoys - immune mediated diseases, Diabetes, endocrine diseases. Things Katie enjoys doing outside of work: spending time with her fiancé and two stepdaughters, her pets, and kickboxing.

Heidi Lescun got her BS in Veterinary Technology from North Dakota State University in 1997. She worked as a veterinary technologist at Purdue University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital until 2000, when she moved to Australia for her husband Tim’s job as a veterinarian at a progressive equine hospital. In 2001, she returned to the Purdue VTH to provide anesthesia support and was appointed the supervisor of the anesthesia technicians in 2006. Heidi joined Vetamac in 2015 as service technician/sales associate servicing Northwest and Central Indiana.

Heidi is originally from Wausau, Wisconsin. She’s married to Tim, an Australian, and they have a daughter, Lili. She enjoys lasagna and 80’s rock, and she and Tim live on a small hobby farm with 4 horses and 3 dogs in Lafayette, Indiana. They enjoy attending Purdue basketball games and traveling and are often found showing horses at the Indiana Quarter Horse Shows.

Lauren Bacon is a registered veterinary technician who serves as director of traceability for the Indiana State Board of Animal Health (BOAH). She came to Indiana from a small town in Connecticut to attend Purdue University. After graduating, Lauren worked as a large animal treatment technician at the Purdue Large Animal Hospital, then worked in a mixed-animal veterinary clinic in Indianapolis. In her role at BOAH, Lauren is passionate about continuing to learn, mentoring others and delivering high-quality service. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, family and being surrounded by animals.
