Welcome to the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine Clinical Pathology Laboratory
We are a small, personable lab committed to providing the most accurate, precise, and high-quality results in a timely manner to VTH clinicians, referring veterinarians and researchers. We recognize our teaching role in an academic institution and demonstrate only the highest standards of ethical and professional behavior to all faculty, staff and students.
We are staffed by four clinical pathologists, three clinical pathology residents, a laboratory manager, a senior medical technologist, three medical technologists/medical laboratory technicians, two submission clerks and six after hour veterinary students.
We are an AAHA accredited laboratory. All tests and evaluations are performed in accordance with established policies and procedures in order to provide quality veterinary diagnostic services. We understand the importance of accurate and timely results and strive to provide superior services and to exceed expectations. In most cases, same day consultation with veterinary clinical pathologists is available.
The Clinical Pathology Laboratory provides routine diagnostic testing with rapid turnaround time, including: hematology tests (CBC, reticulocyte count), clinical chemistry tests (on serum, plasma, urine and fluid), coagulation tests (PT, PTT, fibrinogen), urinalysis, endocrinology assays (T4, cortisol, phenobarbital, progesterone, canine TSH, endogenous ACTH), coombs testing, and fluid and cytology analysis. Abnormal CBCs and urine sediments, all cytology and fluids are interpreted by board certified clinical pathologists.
In-house instrumentation includes:
- Siemens Advia 2120i
- Stago Compact
- Ortho-Clinical Vitros Fusion 5,1
- Siemens Immulite 1000
Daily quality assurance and quality control procedures are in place to ensure accurate and reliable patient results. Routine maintenance (daily, weekly, and monthly) is performed in accordance to manufacturer’s recommendations.
