Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine Names New Senior Director of Admissions and Student Success

A key Purdue Veterinary Medicine staff member who has played a vital role in admissions and recruitment will now serve as the new senior director of admissions and student success. Lori Stout has been promoted to the position and Dean Bret Marsh announced the appointment Tuesday, August 26.
Purdue Veterinary Technician and College of Pharmacy Graduate Named New PVM Assistant Dean for the Veterinary Technology Program

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine has named an alumna and longtime Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), who also holds a PharmD degree and serves on the college’s faculty, as the new assistant dean for the Purdue Veterinary Technology Program. Dr. Melinda (Mindy) Anderson, clinical associate professor of basic medical sciences, was appointed to the position effective August 1.

PVM Toxicologist’s Warning about Poisonous Mushrooms Aids Pet Owners Locally and Nationally

They’re known as “Death Cap Mushrooms” and for good reason – Dr. Steve Hooser, Purdue Veterinary Medicine professor of toxicology and senior veterinary toxicologist at the Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, says they can be fatal for dogs. Dr. Hooser says the mushrooms, scientifically known as Amanita spp., have appeared in yards and fields across central Indiana.
Spotlight on Hematology: Two PVM Legends Headline Upcoming Purdue Veterinary Conference

The 2025 Purdue Veterinary Conference will bring together 73 expert speakers across 19 specialized tracks ranging from canine and feline hematology, to small animal oncology, to farm animal care, when it is held September 16-20 on Purdue University’s West Lafayette campus. Of special note is a pair of talks that will be given Thursday, September 18 by two Purdue legends in veterinary clinical pathology — Dr. Dennis DeNicola and Dr. Fred Metzger — who will deliver back-to-back sessions that have the potential to transform the way attendees approach veterinary diagnostics.
Purdue Veterinary Medicine Dean Bret Marsh Honored at Indiana State Fair

The 2025 edition of the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis brought surprise recognition for the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine’s Dean and Hospital CEO, Dr. Bret Marsh this week. Dr. Marsh was on stage at the State Fair’s Pioneer Village Opry House for a program on Wednesday, August 13, thinking he had been invited to share brief remarks. His understanding of the situation changed quickly, though, when he realized he was not there to give a presentation, but instead to receive special recognition.
Purdue and Illinois Veterinary Summer Research Scholars Connect at Lynn Hall

Veterinary students from Purdue University and the University of Illinois who opted to dedicate their summer to gaining hands-on experience in scientific discovery convened at Lynn Hall recently for an intense one day symposium. The 13th Annual Joint Symposium of Purdue University and University of Illinois Veterinary Scholars was held at Lynn Hall June 25.
