Welcome to the Histology Research Laboratory
The Histology Research Laboratory is a full service histology laboratory that provides general histology, immunohistochemistry, frozen sectioning, decalcified and undecalcified bone histology, and slide digitization services. It also manages a large and small animal necropsy room. The laboratory may collaborate with investigators in the development of new techniques and in the characterization of animal models (e.g. phenotyping of genetically altered mice). Expertise in the processing of bone and implants is available.
Submitted tissue samples are embedded in paraffin, plastic or OCT medium (frozen tissue). Embedded tissues are sectioned with a rotary microtome (paraffin and plastic), cryostat (frozen tissues), or with EXAKT grinding (plastic embedded undecalcified bone and implants). A variety of histological stains is available and automated immunocytochemistry services are offered.
Dr. Yava Jones-Hall DVM, PhD, Dr. L. Tiffany Lyle, DVM, PhD, and Dr. Abigail Durkes DVM, PhD, all board-certified pathologists in the Department of Comparative Pathobiology, are available for consultation and collaboration.
The Histology Research Laboratory is a division of the Center for Comparative Translational Research at the Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine.
