PVM’s Exotic Animal Medicine Club strives to provide students with the knowledge, understanding, and experience to provide excellent veterinary care for our future exotic animal patients. Our club meets with specialists in zoo, wildlife, exotics, and aquatic medicine through a number of lectures, wet labs, and other activities.

 

Past Activities Include:

  • Behind the scenes tour with veterinarians at Indianapolis Zoo
  • TB and Chronic Wasting Disease surveillance in deer with USDA
  • Snake anatomy and necropsy wet lab
  • Small mammal spay/neuter wet lab
  • Clinic tour of the Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic of Indianapolis
  • PE and handling labs with reptiles, raptors, and more!

 

Past Speakers Include:

  • Dr. Zdenek Knoteck, Head of the Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic on Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno, Czech Republic
  • Dr. Mary Duncan, veterinary pathologist at the Saint Louis Zoo
  • Dr. Jan Ramer, veterinarian at the Wilds and past veterinarian for Gorilla Doctors
  • Jessica Ray, population biologist at the Population Management Center at the Lincoln Park Zoo
