According to TV news coverage in Fort Wayne, Ind., the second annual Allen County Area Assistance Fund (ACAAF) Dog Jog was successful in raising money to help animals from that area that need treatment at Purdue Veterinary Medicine's Small Animal Hospital. The event attracted humans and canines who participated in a 5K run/walk at Foster Park Saturday, September 23. WANE-TV Meteorologist Hannah Strong participated in the Dog Jog as the Lead Runner and honored the winners. The top three finishers received medals, and treats were doled out to the participating humans and their canine companions. The funds raised through the event are designated for helping to cover some of the medical costs through the ACAAF for Fort Wayne area pets that need to be referred to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. "Events like this are great and we've received a great response from the community just in helping support others in our area who may be in a similar situation, and in determining whether or not they want to go down to Purdue, this kind of helps to make that decision a little easier for them and take some of the financial burden off of them as well," Lisa Clemens of the ACAAF was quoted as saying in a story on WFFT.com.
