August 4, 2016

Wil Gwin, R.Ph.Congratulations to Veterinary Teaching Hospital Pharmacy Director Wil Gwin, R.Ph., on becoming a Diplomate of the International College of Veterinary Pharmacy (ICVP) as a board certified veterinary pharmacist.  Dr. Sue Hudson Duran, Professor and Clinical Pharmacist at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, said this designation means Wil met the rigorous credentialing requirements and passed an arduous examination to prove competence.

Dr. Hudson Duran explained that the goal of the ICVP is to educate human pharmacists to meet standards of practice in a veterinary teaching hospital setting that will assist veterinary students, clinicians and practitioners in improved clinical therapy.  Key objectives are to include veterinary pharmacists and residents in aspects of grant writing and clinical research in the field of pharmacology/pharmacokinetics; develop veterinary pharmacy residency programs to improve competence in veterinary medicine; and move toward One Health initiatives for advancement of the veterinary field as it serves an important role in overall healthcare to include companion and food animals, food security and human and environmental health.

In addition to serving as the director of Purdue Veterinary Medicine’s VTH Pharmacy, Wil also is active in veterinary pharmacy nationwide, currently serving as president of the Society of Veterinary Hospital Pharmacists (SVHP).  Congratulations Wil!
