PVM Alumna Named New Director of MSU Diagnostic Lab

Purdue Veterinary Medicine alumna Rachel Reams (PU DVM ’86) has been named the director of the Michigan State University (MSU) Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health (DCPAH), effective August 1, 2015. MSU made the announcement Tuesday, May 19.  Dr. Reams will leave her present position at Covance Research Laboratories, where she serves as director of translational biomarker solutions.

The DCPAH is MSU’s full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory offering more than 800 tests in 11 service sections. Dr. Reams says she is looking forward to strengthening DCPAH’s leadership in its business, academic, and government roles. “DCPAH is unique in its complex mission and its interconnected relationships with industry, academia, and the government,” Dr. Reams said. “I am looking forward to building on the excellent service we provide to veterinary practitioners and the animals they serve, and to advancing our educational and research missions.”

Dr. Reams earned both her DVM and Ph.D. degrees at Purdue in 1986 and 1995, respectively, and has held leadership roles in academic, government, and industry settings as a veterinarian, pathologist, and administrator.  She is the former director of the Puerto Rico Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, and the former head of the Large Animal Pathology and Toxicology Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center. She also is a past president of the Purdue Veterinary Alumni Association. A Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP), Dr. Reams is active in the Society of Toxicologic Pathologists and the American College of Veterinary Pathologists.

“Dr. Reams brings strong credentials for leading and developing DCPAH and its service to industry, the university, and the citizens of Michigan,” said MSU College of Veterinary Medicine Dean John Baker. “Her significant experience in each of these arenas will be pivotal in moving DCPAH forward.”
