{"id":9308,"date":"2020-07-17T12:40:54","date_gmt":"2020-07-17T16:40:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qa.vet.purdue.edu\/news\/?p=9308"},"modified":"2020-07-17T12:40:54","modified_gmt":"2020-07-17T16:40:54","slug":"virtual-celebration-honors-retiring-professor-of-veterinary-parasitology-joe-camp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/virtual-celebration-honors-retiring-professor-of-veterinary-parasitology-joe-camp.php","title":{"rendered":"Virtual Celebration Honors Retiring Professor of Veterinary Parasitology Joe Camp"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For 17 years, Dr. Joe Camp faithfully and effectively taught parasitology to veterinary students as a professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine&#8217;s Department of <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/cpb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Comparative Pathobiology<\/a>.\u00a0 He also served as the Purdue University secretary of faculties during that time.\u00a0 Colleagues and former students gathered virtually on his last day at the university Tuesday, June 30 to congratulate him and wish him well on the occasion of his retirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/camp-joseph_sm-819x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Joe Camp portrait\" class=\"wp-image-9310\" width=\"242\" height=\"303\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/camp-joseph_sm-819x1024.jpg 819w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/camp-joseph_sm-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/camp-joseph_sm-768x960.jpg 768w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/camp-joseph_sm-188x235.jpg 188w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/camp-joseph_sm.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 242px) 100vw, 242px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Hosting the retirement celebration on the Zoom platform, Dean Reed began the virtual event by commending Dr. Camp for his record of service to the college and the university.&nbsp; \u201cJoe has played a very important and absolutely essential role in our college for these last 17 years,\u201d Dean Reed said.&nbsp; \u201cI just want to thank you on behalf of the faculty, the staff, and students for your many, many contributions that you&#8217;ve given not only to the College of Veterinary Medicine but also to Purdue University.&nbsp; I think you\u2019ve done just a marvelous job as secretary of faculties here at Purdue, and I know they will miss your leadership there, as we\u2019re going to miss your leadership and your contributions here in the college.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dean Reed noted that Dr. Camp taught 17 classes of veterinary students during his Purdue tenure.\u00a0 \u201cThat\u2019s a lot of students over the college\u2019s 60 year history,\u201d Dean Reed said.\u00a0 \u201cOf course this is one of those bittersweet days &#8211; a day when we\u2019re happy for your retirement because I know you\u2019ve been making plans for a long time\u2026 and also its sad because another member of the family is leaving after such a long and distinguished career.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several colleagues offered their congratulations during the program, thanking Dr. Camp for his contributions, friendship, help and support, as well as for sharing his expertise in parliamentary procedure.&nbsp; People also expressed admiration for the example of fitness that he set as a runner, including his participation annually in the college\u2019s Dr. Skip Jackson <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/dogjog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dog Jog<\/a>, held each year during the <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Purdue Veterinary Conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to the virtual retirement celebration, Dr. Camp was presented with a crystal plaque featuring an engraving of the Continuum sculpture.&nbsp; Dr. Camp\u2019s Department Head, Dr. Sanjeev Narayanan, also shared a letter from Purdue Provost Jay Akridge announcing the approval of Dr. Camp\u2019s designation as Professor Emeritus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Camp thanked everyone for their well-wishes and said he plans to keep in touch from Colorado, where he is relocating for retirement.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Camp!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For 17 years, Dr. Joe Camp faithfully and effectively taught parasitology to veterinary students as a professor in the Department of Comparative Pathobiology faculty in the College of Veterinary Medicine.
