{"id":7833,"date":"2020-03-26T12:14:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-26T16:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qa.vet.purdue.edu\/news\/?p=7833"},"modified":"2025-12-02T09:23:41","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T14:23:41","slug":"update-on-pvm-measures-related-to-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/update-on-pvm-measures-related-to-covid-19.php","title":{"rendered":"Update on PVM Measures Related to COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"393\" src=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/coronavirus-cdc.jpg\" alt=\"microscopic image of coronavirus\" class=\"wp-image-7834\" style=\"width:400px;height:224px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/coronavirus-cdc.jpg 700w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/coronavirus-cdc-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/coronavirus-cdc-419x235.jpg 419w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Image courtesy of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine\ncontinues to fulfill its missions of serving animal owners, protecting public\nhealth and food safety, preparing the next generation of veterinary medical professionals\nand conducting veterinary and comparative medical research, while taking extra\nmeasures and precautions to protect our faculty, staff, students and clients in\nthe midst of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.&nbsp; In keeping with government directives as well\nas changes announced by the Purdue University administration, the College and\nits Veterinary Hospital and <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/addl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory<\/a> have\nimplemented a number of changes to ensure the safety and health of the Purdue\nVeterinary Medicine family and the people and animals we serve while remaining\nopen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the many steps taken so far by our faculty and staff:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The College arranged for online delivery of preclinical courses beginning March 23, and is transitioning clinical teaching in the Veterinary Hospital and the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory into online and remote formats beginning on Monday, March 30. Clinical rotations will be offered online so that our students can meet their graduation requirements on time. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The College remains open and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/vet\/vth\/\">Veterinary Hospital<\/a> and Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory continue operating in order to serve the needs of animal owners and the veterinary medical profession, with a number of new measures and enhanced precautions.\u00a0 The Veterinary Hospital has implemented new patient intake procedures and will limit caseload to urgent and emergency cases beginning on Monday, March 30.\u00a0 \u201cThe overarching focus is on the health and safety of our veterinary medical teams, our clients, and our patients,\u201d said the hospital director, Dr. Ellen Lowery.
