{"id":7668,"date":"2020-02-21T11:55:43","date_gmt":"2020-02-21T16:55:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qa.vet.purdue.edu\/news\/?p=7668"},"modified":"2025-12-02T10:41:19","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T15:41:19","slug":"pvm-researcher-shares-insights-about-african-cancer-research-on-global-cancer-information-website","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/pvm-researcher-shares-insights-about-african-cancer-research-on-global-cancer-information-website.php","title":{"rendered":"PVM Researcher Shares Insights about African Cancer Research on Global Cancer Information Website"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ecancer.org\/en\/video\/8707-cancer-research-in-african-countries\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"407\" height=\"231\" src=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Sulma_Mohammed_video.png\" alt=\"Dr. Sulma Mohammed\" class=\"wp-image-7671\" style=\"width:400px;height:227px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Sulma_Mohammed_video.png 407w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Sulma_Mohammed_video-300x170.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 407px) 100vw, 407px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The online platform <a href=\"https:\/\/ecancer.org\/en\/conference\/1158-aortic-2019-conference\"><em>e<\/em>cancer<\/a>, which seeks to raise the\nstandards of care for cancer patients across the world through education,\nrecently posted a video of an interview with Dr. Sulma Mohammed, professor of\ncancer biology in Purdue Veterinary Medicine\u2019s Department of Comparative\nPathobiology.&nbsp; Dr. Mohammed discussed the\nstate of cancer research in Africa and explained her passion for African cancer\nresearch that has led her to play an active role over a dozen years in a major conference\naddressing cancer on the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her video is part of <a href=\"https:\/\/ecancer.org\/en\/conference\/1158-aortic-2019-conference\"><em>e<\/em>cancer\u2019s coverage of the 12th\nInternational Conference on Cancer in Africa<\/a>, which was hosted by the <a href=\"http:\/\/aorticconference.org\/\">African Organisation for Research and\nTraining in Cancer<\/a> (AORTIC) in Maputo, Mozambique last November. With the\ntheme, \u201cCancer in Africa: Innovation, Strategies, Implementation,\u201d the 2019\nAORTIC Conference focused on cancer control in Africa, and featured an in-depth\nscientific program with local, African, and internationally-renowned keynote\nspeakers.&nbsp; Dr. Mohammed chaired a session\nduring the conference entitled \u201cCancer Biology from the Bench to Bedside.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During her <a href=\"https:\/\/ecancer.org\/en\/video\/8707-cancer-research-in-african-countries\">interview\nwith <em>e<\/em>cancer<\/a>, Dr. Mohammed noted\nthat the conference was primarily patient-oriented.&nbsp; \u201cI\u2019m an advocate for cancer research in\nAfrica.
