Veterinary nurses in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital\u2019s orthopedic surgery section Marcella Ruhana, LeAnna Sanders, Emily Matson, and Courtney White greeted Dr. Ellen Lowery at the reception welcoming her as the new hospital director.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Purdue Veterinary Medicine faculty and staff had the\nopportunity to welcome Dr. Ellen Lowery as the new Veterinary Teaching Hospital\ndirector and clinical professor during a reception in her honor February 5 in\nLynn Hall.  \u201cWe are just thrilled that\nyou are here and we think that the timing is just perfect,\u201d Dean Willie Reed said\nas he introduced Dr. Lowery at the event. \n\u201cGiven where we want to take the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in the\nfuture, and with new facilities coming on, this opportunity matches very well\nwith your leadership skills and the career that you had before you came here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most recently, Dr. Lowery served as professor of practice in\nthe School of Applied and Interdisciplinary Studies at Kansas State\nUniversity\u2019s Olathe campus and as ancillary faculty in the College of\nVeterinary Medicine\u2019s Department of Diagnostic Medicine and Pathobiology and\nthe Masters of Public Health program. \nBefore joining the Kansas State University faculty, Dr. Lowery had a\ndistinguished 23-year career at Hill\u2019s Pet Nutrition and held a number of\nincreasingly important leadership positions, including director of U.S.\nProfessional and Veterinary Affairs. She earned her DVM and PhD degrees at Kansas\nState University and her MBA degree at the University of Kansas. She also has\nexperience in private veterinary practice and during her graduate program\nserved as the university veterinarian for Kansas State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Lowery visited with Dr. Larry Adams, professor and section head of small animal internal medicine, and his wife, Laurie, who serves as continuing lecturer in the Department of Veterinary Administration, during the welcome reception in the Veterinary Medical Library in Lynn Hall.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDr. Lowery brings wonderful business experience, a lot of\nleadership experience, strategic planning experience, and she capped that off\nwith academic experience,\u201d Dean Reed said. \n\u201cAnd we\u2019re just thrilled to have her be part of the Purdue Veterinary\nMedicine family and a member of the College\u2019s leadership team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Lowery thanked everyone, including the dean, members of the search committee and everybody she had the opportunity to speak with during the interview process.  \u201cI am truly so excited to be here,\u201d Dr. Lowery said. \u201cI was eager to get here as soon as I possibly could to join the team.  Everybody I talked to outside of Purdue commented on the strength of the University which solidified my decision.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Describing herself as an open and transparent person, Dr.\nLowery said she knows she has a steep learning curve ahead. \u201cEverybody has been\nso gracious and I appreciate that you\u2019re all willing to help me up that\nlearning curve,\u201d Dr. Lowery said.  \u201cI\u2019ll\nask a lot of questions.  I want your\nfeedback and I want you to ask me a lot of questions as well.  I look forward to taking us to the next\nlevel.\u201d\n\nDr. Lowery\u2019s appointment was effective February\n1.  Veterinary Teaching Hospital\nclinicians, veterinary nurses, and faculty and staff from across the College\nattended the reception, which was held in the Veterinary Medical Library.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
