The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine is putting on two events during VMX, the national Veterinary Meeting and Expo in Orlando, Fla., in January.\u00a0 The first event is the Human-Animal Bond Lecture co-sponsored by the College and Elanco Animal Health, featuring a presentation entitled, \u201cThe Secret Life of Vets:\u00a0 Embracing the Human-Animal Bond.\u201d\u00a0 The talk by Dr. Zenithson Ng, clinical associate professor in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, will take place Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 5:45-6:45 p.m. in the Orange County Convention Center South.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veterinarians are arguably the professionals who are most attuned to the human-animal bond and all that it has to offer. If the benefits of human-animal interactions touted by scholars hold true, then why do veterinarians, who interact with animals every day, suffer from mental health conditions that even the human-animal bond cannot cure? Practical strategies and future research directions for utilizing the human-animal bond to improve the welfare and well-being of both veterinarians and animals alike will be explored in Dr. Ng\u2019s presentation.\u00a0 Dr. Ng\u2019s research interests include the effect of animal-assisted interventions on both humans and animals, enhancement of the veterinarian-client relationship, and assessment of stress and animal welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
