She also\nwas appointed as the new director of Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic\nLaboratory (ADDL) effective June 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Born and raised in Montgomery, Ala., Dr. Hendrix\u2019s interest in veterinary medicine stemmed from her 7<sup>th<\/sup> grade career project on veterinarians. She was required to read about the career, interview a veterinarian, and log several hours of work in the profession. From then on, her path led her straight to veterinary school. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"694\" src=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/19dvmr_143_sm-1024x694.jpg\" alt=\"A person in a lab coat and gloves is using a microscope, surrounded by petri dishes in a laboratory setting.\" class=\"wp-image-6515\" style=\"width:400px;height:271px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/19dvmr_143_sm-1024x694.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/19dvmr_143_sm-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/19dvmr_143_sm-768x520.jpg 768w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/19dvmr_143_sm-347x235.jpg 347w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/19dvmr_143_sm.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Hendrix\u2019s responsibilities involve leading the microbiology rotation for DVM students and giving guest lectures in bacteriology courses for both veterinary nursing and DVM students, as well as serving as the ADDL director and section head of the ADDL\u2019s Bacteriology, Mycology, and Parasitology Laboratories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked what she enjoys about being part of Purdue Veterinary\nMedicine, Dr. Hendrix expressed that her favorite part is the collegiality. \u201cI\nlove that we are all on the same team. In addition, since the ADDL is necessary\nfor diagnostics and data for all departments, there is a lot of opportunity for\ncollaboration among faculty,\u201d she said. Dr. Hendrix said her biggest career\nachievement to date was being selected to be a plenary speaker at the annual\nAmerican Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) conference\nand speaking about antimicrobial resistance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In her free time, Dr. Hendrix tap-dances and spends time\nwith her two elementary school children. She participates in their activities\nby being a Girl Scout leader for her daughter\u2019s troop and has even coached her\nson\u2019s football team in the past! \n\nDr. Hendrix is one of three PVM faculty members\nwho received promotions for the current academic year.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Vet Gazette this week begins a series celebrating the talented faculty members who received promotions effective with the 2019-2020 academic year.
