Purdue SAVMA, the PVM Chapter of the Student American Veterinary Medical Association, hosted the event, which was organized by a team of student volunteers led by event chair Javier Pino of the DVM Class of 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"544\" src=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/dogjog2.png\" alt=\"Dean Willie Reed, who drove Skip Jackson around the course on a golf cart that also carried Dr. Jackson\u2019s wife, Betty Ruth, and PVM alumnus and longtime race supporter and enthusiast Dr. Larry McAfee.\" class=\"wp-image-6210\" style=\"width:360px;height:272px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/dogjog2.png 720w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/dogjog2-300x227.png 300w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/dogjog2-311x235.png 311w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Professor emeritus Skip Jackson, in whose honor the race is named, participated again this year with the assistance of Dean Willie Reed, who drove him around the course on a golf cart that also carried Dr. Jackson\u2019s wife, Betty Ruth, and PVM alumnus and longtime race supporter and enthusiast Dr. Larry McAfee (PU DVM \u201973).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs a runner, I have been attracted\nto the Dr. Skip Jackson Dog Jog since my first semester in vet school,\u201d\nexplained Javi. \u201cBringing the event together over the past year and\nimplementing improvements was a great experience! &nbsp;I am excited to see the Dog Jog develop in the\nupcoming years as we continue to honor Dr. Jackson\u2019s legacy by keeping a fun\nand friendly environment that the community can enjoy while raising money for a\ngreat cause.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event is named in honor of Professor\nEmeritus of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry Horace (Skip) Jackson, who has\nparticipated ever since the College of Veterinary Medicine\u2019s first fun run\/walk\nwas held in conjunction with the Purdue Veterinary Conference almost five\ndecades ago.&nbsp; This year, Dr. Jackson again\nwas present at the event with his family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After all the participants had\ncompleted the race, Purdue Veterinary Medicine Dean Willie Reed handed out\nawards for the top three runners in the male and female categories. All participating dogs received Dog Jog bandanas that their owners were able to decorate at booths hosted by PetSmart, Shelter Medicine, and the LGBTQ center. PVM\u2019s Canine Educator program also sold its much-loved \u201cpupsicles\u201d at the event.&nbsp; CrossFit West Lafayette was on hand as well to lead warmups and stretches prior to the race and the Clinton Country Humane Society provided shelter dogs to accompany runners. The goal is to raise $25,000.
