Is there a pandemic on the horizon? Could understanding the 1918 influenza pandemic aid in preventing future pandemics?&nbsp; To help answer those questions, Gina Kolata, author of \u201cFlu: The Story of the Great Influenza Pandemic of 1918,\u201d will give a public presentation at Purdue University entitled, \u201cWhat IF the Next Pandemic is Inevitable?\u201d The discussion will take place from 10:30 a.m.  \u2013 12:00 p.m., September 23, at Stewart Center\u2019s Loeb Playhouse. She works as a science and medicine reporter, and is the author of six books. Gina is a graduate of the molecular biology program at M.I.T. and received her master\u2019s in applied mathematics from the University of Maryland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event is part of Purdue\u2019s Ideas Festival, the centerpiece of Purdue\u2019s Giant Leaps Sesquicentennial Campaign, which is a series of events that connect world-renowned speakers and Purdue expertise in a conversation on the most critical problems facing the world. The College of Veterinary Medicine is focusing on the Ideas Festival\u2019s theme of \u201cHealth, Longevity, and Quality of Life\u201d during the month of September, which is the College\u2019s featured month to celebrate its contributions to Purdue\u2019s 150 years of Giant Leaps.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gina also will participate in a panel discussion on the topic, \u201cThe Current and Future Role of Vaccination in Global Health,\u201d&nbsp;which will follow her talk from 1:30 \u2013 2:30 p.m. in Lynn Hall, Room 1136. Joining Gina on the panel will be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pamela M.
