Five veterinarians and four veterinary nurses from across the U.S. and Canada joined PVM\u2019s Director of Global Engagement William Smith and Director of Lifelong Learning Andrea Brown on the adventure.&nbsp; The program focused on multiple aspects of wildlife medicine and rehabilitation, and provided participants extensive hands-on experiences with a variety of wildlife species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The course, which gave attendees a unique opportunity to learn from some of the top wildlife veterinary and conservation professionals in Central America, was offered April 7-14 as part of the celebration of Purdue\u2019s 150<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary and the College\u2019s 60<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary.&nbsp; The group kicked-off the trip with a private tour of the Belize Zoo where they learned about wildlife species important to Central America, like the Baird\u2019s Tapir, Margay, Jaguarondi, Kinkajou, Black Howler Monkey, Harpy Eagle, Toucan, and Scarlet Macaw.&nbsp; Topics included wildlife\ncase discussions, distance immobilization and restraint, osteology, x-ray\ndiagnostic case examples, parasitology, necropsy, reptile medicine, and avian\nmedicine and conservation.&nbsp; Participants\nalso visited the beautiful San Ignacio Resort Hotel for a birding expedition\nand a reptile handling and restraint lab at the Green Iguana Conservation\nProject.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/GreenIguanas-IMG_2165-2_sm-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"An instructor provides guidance while one participant restrains an iguana and the other participant draws blood\" class=\"wp-image-4840\" width=\"400\" height=\"265\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/GreenIguanas-IMG_2165-2_sm-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/GreenIguanas-IMG_2165-2_sm-353x235.jpg 353w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><figcaption>The reptile medicine and conservation lab was held at the Green Iguana Conservation Project, where attendees performed routine exams and blood draws.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>An overnight visit to Flores, Guatemala, provided the group with an\nopportunity to spend time at the ARCAS Wild Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation\nCenter in Pet\u00e9n, Guatemala.&nbsp;
