Kenitra Hendrix has been named director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/addl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory<\/a> and Dr. Craig Bowen has been named assistant director, effective June 1.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Two veterinary diagnosticians at the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine have been appointed as the new leadership team for the <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/addl\/\">Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL)<\/a> effective June 1.  <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/directory\/person.php?id=273\">Dr. G. Kenitra Hendrix<\/a>, clinical assistant professor of veterinary diagnostic microbiology, has been named as the director of the ADDL and <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/directory\/person.php?id=984\">Dr. Craig Bowen<\/a> (PU DVM 2011), veterinary diagnostician, will become the assistant director.&nbsp; Purdue Veterinary Medicine Dean Willie Reed announced the appointments in April.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ADDL is a full-service veterinary diagnostic lab and a key service unit of the College of Veterinary Medicine. \u201cWe are excited to welcome Drs. Hendrix and Bowen to their important new positions,\u201d Dean Reed said. \u201cI am confident this new leadership will provide exceptional guidance for the ADDL as we grow the lab, provide outstanding customer service, expand our diagnostic tests, and continue to make an impact in a broad range of industries and disciplines.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"747\" src=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/19dvmr_147_sm-1024x747.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4812\" style=\"width:400px;height:292px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/19dvmr_147_sm-1024x747.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/19dvmr_147_sm-300x219.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/19dvmr_147_sm-768x560.jpg 768w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/19dvmr_147_sm-322x235.jpg 322w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/19dvmr_147_sm.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Dr. Hendrix currently serves as section head of the ADDL\u2019s Bacteriology, Mycology, and Parasitology Laboratories and interim director of the Virology section. &nbsp;She came to Purdue in 2013, when she joined the faculty of the Department of <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/cpb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Comparative Pathobiology<\/a> after earning her PhD at the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. &nbsp;Dr. Hendrix obtained her DVM degree at Auburn University and is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists (virology, immunology, and bacteriology and mycology).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am extremely\npleased to take on this role, and I am passionate about embracing ADDL&#8217;s\nengagement, teaching, and research support missions,\u201d Dr. Hendrix said after\nbeing named as the ADDL\u2019s new director. \u201cWe have an important responsibility to\nthe state of Indiana and the veterinary industry to provide outstanding and\naccurate service to ADDL clients, facilitate research and scholarship, and\nsupport a rich learning and clinical environment.\u201d&nbsp; Dr. Hendrix will succeed Dr. Stephen Lenz,\nwho has been serving as interim director.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"926\" src=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/19dvmr_014_sm-1024x926.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4813\" style=\"width:322px;height:292px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/19dvmr_014_sm-1024x926.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/19dvmr_014_sm-300x271.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/19dvmr_014_sm-768x694.jpg 768w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/19dvmr_014_sm-260x235.jpg 260w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/19dvmr_014_sm.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Dr. Bowen joined\nthe ADDL in 2016 as a diagnostic\/client services veterinarian. &nbsp;A 2011 graduate of Purdue\u2019s DVM program, Dr.\nBowen worked in private practice with a focus on production medicine before\njoining the Indiana State Board of Animal Health, where he served as the\nDistrict IV field veterinarian and director of Swine Health Programs.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Bowen has a broad\nunderstanding of animal production agriculture and extensive experience in beef\ncattle and meat goat production. &nbsp;His\ncurrent responsibilities in the ADDL include serving as section supervisor for accessioning,\nproviding consultation to referring veterinarians regarding specimen submission\nand test result interpretation, production of educational material for clients,\nand delivery of educational presentations at professional conferences and\nproducer meetings. He will continue serving in those capacities as he also\nassumes his new administrative duties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory serves as a professional resource for veterinarians and animal owners by providing comprehensive diagnostic testing to preserve and protect animal and human health in the state of Indiana and beyond.
